This is a paved multipurpose trail connecting two cities in central Florida. The pathway stretches 3 miles from W Main St. in Tavares, parallel to US-441 S, and terminates just after Kinne Pearce Rd. in Leesburg, linking neighborhoods with commercial areas along the highway. The ViaPort Mall is close by, opposite they highway. There are a couple of at-grade road crossings so walkers, cyclists and other users are reminded to proceed with caution.
There are plans to extend the trail west further into Leesburg.
There is no designated parking for the trail but you you can park at ViaPort Florida Mall, or any of the other shopping areas or restaurants with parking along the route.
To be honest, the best thing I can say about theTav-Lee Trail is that it is nearby. The description talks about parking at the Leesburg Mall or along the trail, but we park in the Tavares parking garage. From there we ride our bikes down Main Street a bit, past the administration building and the bike trail really starts there. There have been times when I have even ridden from Eustis to add miles, but the garage is handy. You have highway 441 alongside you as you ride, so don’t expect a quiet nature ride. The trail breaks off a little in broad curves to give you a break from the traffic noise, and you do get a nice view of Dead River and a canal boat traffic spot. If you are a bargain hunter, there is a Goodwill store along the trail; if you like sports or chicken wings, Vinnie’s is there near the mall. There are chain restaurants and a buffet along the mall area also. Or you can just turn around and ride some more.
