As its name suggests, the Leesburg-Wildwood Trail is planned to connect the two communities via an off-street, walking and biking pathway. Presently, the trail extends between Veech Road and N. 14th Street in Leesburg, on the old Florida Midland Railroad right-of-way. At 14th Street/ US 27, it continues another 0.9 miles to Canal Street as the Fountain Lake Trail within the same former rail corridor. A shared-use path known as the Venetian Gardens Trail parallels Canal Street for another half-mile.
The Leesburg-Wildwood Trail is asphalt and generally flat. The trail sits within an electric utility corridor.
Trail users can park at Berry Park (2121 Johns Ave, Leesburg).
Very disappointing. Nothing special about the trail itself. the homeless encampment and trash was unsettling. Also many men loitering about. I did not feel safe. So many other nicer places to bike this is just not worth it.
This was nice and level, easy parking at either end, part sun and part shaded (although mostly sun), but you will be passing by a few homeless encampments. No one came out to bother us, but just something to be aware of your surroundings. As an older female rider, I probably wouldn't do this ride again alone. But it was an interesting ride, nonetheless. When we got to the end in downtown Leesburg, there are lots of great places to eat.
This trail has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, there is a lot of litter and homeless. Do not use this trail by yourself.
