The Trolley Trail, located in Delaware's Auburn Valley State Park, is a short but sweet crushed stone loop trail near the park's main entrance. While it may not offer much in the way of mileage, the trail has plenty in the way of history - the path runs on the route of an old turn-of-the-century trolley line, once utilized by the historic paper mill. The park offers tours of the mill site, as well as the gorgeous Marshall Mansion, built in 1897.
For those looking for an even more immersive rail experience, the Marshall Steam Museum gives you the chance to ride on the Auburn Valley Railroad, a 1/8-scale working miniature railroad - be sure to check out the rest of their train collection and their operating fleet of Stanley Steam Cars. Those interested in continuing their hike or ride can find their way to the park's Yorklyn Bridge Trail or the Auburn Valley Trail to explore more of the area's quaint natural beauty.
Parking is available at several sites within the state park (with entrance fee); the park office is located at 630 Benge Road in Yorklyn, about 8 miles northwest of Wilmington.
