The Van Buren Trail Spur, which opened in November 2015, offers a paved, off-road route from the southern outskirts of South Haven to Van Buren State Park. The rail-trail begins at 16th Avenue, where it meets the 14-mile unpaved Van Buren Trail State Park. You can take that trail north into downtown South Haven, or follow the pavement southwest for 2.5 miles to the state park. The 400-acre Van Buren State Park offers a beach on the Lake Michigan shoreline, woodland trails, and a campground.
Very nice asphalt paved trail with lots of trees along the trail. Staff at Van Buren state park are very friendly and helpful. The trail takes you right into downtown South Haven. You can enjoy the downtown shopping or skip over to the beach. Upon nearing the downtown area there is lots of signage on the trail to guide you which direction to go. You will not be disappointed by this trail.
