White Lick Creek Greenway is a paved hike-and-bike trail in the Town of Avon, Hendricks County. The trail makes an asset of the creek and its riparian woodlands, offering users a tranquil journey through nature. The trail stretches from County Road 100 North, and parallels CR 600 East, then winds along the west bank of the creek into Washington Township Park. The trail snakes through the park, before coming to an end on the edge of the Avon Junior Athletic Association ball fields at CR 100 South.
Parking can be found at the Avon Washington Township Trail (115 McClain Pl, Avon, IN 46123) and the Pavilion Center within the park (435 Whipple Ln, Avon, IN 46123).
Although relatively short (it's actually 2.6 miles, not 2.3) it traverses wooded areas, forest edge areas, dense brush areas, open meadows, and takes you directly under the Avon haunted bridge. You're never far from White Lick Creek, and most of the time it's right next to you, so there are some very good wildlife opportunities it presents.
I did a roundtrip walk of 5.2 miles and saw numerous Indigo buntings, multiple Baltimore Orioles, Eastern Towhees, Red-eyed Videos, an Eastern parula, red headed woodpeckers, yellowthroats, a Kentucky Warbler, and at least 10-12 others I don't typically see at my feeders.
Highly recommend this trail!
This trail goes along the beautiful White Lick creek and goes under the haunted train bridge. A must if you are biking!
