The 5.4-mile paved pathway which traverses Zacate Creek Linear Park offers a pleasant transportation route connecting several parks in the heart of Laredo. The southern end of the trail begins at a small parking area at the dead end of Ventura Street, just east of San Eugenio Avenue. From there, travelers will head north with the creek on the right and residential neighborhoods to the left.
In a tenth of a mile, the trail reaches Azteca Park. The trail continues under US 83 and then enters Houston Park and Scott Street Park shortly thereafter. Here, a crossing over the creek provides access to Seven Flags Park and J.C. Martin Jr. Elementary School on the east side of the waterway. You can now continue following the trail north along either side of the creek. In the final stretch of the trail, you'll traverse Dr. Cecilia May Moreno Park and end at the Taylor Ball Park. Note that there is little shade for much of the route, so be prepared for the sun exposure and bring water with you.
Parking is available at the southern end of the trail at the dead end of Ventura St., just east of San Eugenio Ave. Additional parking areas are available in Azteca Park, Seven Flags Park, Dr. Cecilia May Moreno Park and Taylor Ball Park.
The trail was in poor shape some spots near Barrio Azteca were impassable with trees in your face.
