Getting Outside in a Time of Social Distance

As the days of social distancing add up in the response to COVID-19, trails are increasingly being counted on as places where people can continue to be physically active and find respite while practicing social distancing. As you plan your trail outing, be prepared that some trails may have limited services, including closed facilities like bathrooms, depots and visitor centers as well as limited or no staff. We encourage you to check the latest public health guidance from the CDC and your local/state governments, as well as the status of your trail, before heading out! You can find local trail contact information in the “Related Content” section of each individual trail record.

East Bay Bike Path

Relaxing Day

May, 2020 by nancysanterre

Really like this trail. It’s well maintained, views are great. Love ending the ride with a picnic lunch at Colt State Park overlooking the ocean.

Blackstone River Greenway

how the hell is this considered a biking trail?!?

May, 2020 by atherien

Extremely narrow, muddy, full of roots and ups and downs. This would be hard to navigate with hiking boots, let alone a bike... ridiculous.

Blackstone River Greenway

Enjoyable

I love this trail. Few bumpy spots due to tree roots but overall a great trail with great scenery.

Our go to bike ride to start the riding season, end the riding season, times in between. Peaceful and scenic.

East Bay Bike Path

Great late winter ride

February, 2020 by jennolsen54

Rode this whole trail today, on a beautiful sunny winter day, and it was well-maintained with beautiful views of the water. Two bridges are currently under construction, but the detours are well-marked and don’t detract from the whole ride. Highly recommended!

Ten Mile River Greenway

the best 3 mile stretch in the area

February, 2020 by cchandonait

A Great Blue Heron, a million swans, mallards, gentle slopes, complimentary curves all help make this my favorite local walk. Rhode Island trails seem to want us to walk on the left and ride on the right. It’s counterintuitive to most walkers and sets up confusion and frustration on the trail. There are some signs. But quite a few are missing and there are no directions in the lane. That’s my only complaint and it’s minor.

William C. O'Neill Bike Path

Great ride!

September, 2019 by jgspromos

Rolled in from CT to check this out and am glad we did! Super easy ride with minimal elevation changes and beautiful scenery. Missed the parking at the train station but eventually figured it out. Be sure to head east after the trail ends at Mumford St. to reach Narragansett Bay and the Towers. Spectacular sight!

Nice, wide easy trail along the river. You might see a blue heron at the clearing with the bench. Great for dogs and little kids.
