East Boston Greenway Description

The East Boston Greenway, a linear park made possible by the donation of a disused rail corridor by Conrail in 1997 and the ‘Big Dig’ project in later years, links Boston Harbor with new parks created as a result of the I-90 extension to Logan International Airport. The trailhead on Marginal Street just west of Piers Park displays a blue Conrail caboose as a reminder of the greenway’s railroad history.

The Marginal Street trailhead also offers stunning views of the Boston skyline, located just across Boston Harbor. Along its route, the East Boston Greenway connects a number of commercial and residential properties to the sprawling Bremen Street Park. A short spur transports trail users to East Boston’s Memorial Park and Stadium.

In the near future, a rail-with-trail extension of the East Boston Greenway adjacent to the MBTA’s Blue Line will allow bikers and pedestrians to view Wood Island Bay Marsh and visit Constitution Beach.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the East Boston Greenway can be found at Piers Park on Marginal Street, at East Boston Memorial Park and Stadium and along Bremen Street.

East Boston Greenway Reviews

I live in East Boston and use this trail quite bit. If you are a cyclist, beware of pedestrian traffic and kids who do not pay attention to bike traffic. Also, the East Boston Greenway Connector to Wood Island Marsh is open and at its end give an amazing views of planes arriving and departing Logan International Airport.

The long awaited connector to Constitution Beach will be open soon as I can see the trail is complete but the gates remain closed and locked.

I love this ride and look forward to it finally being complete.
