Folsom Parkway Rail Trail Description

The Folsom Parkway Rail Trail extends from historic downtown Folsom to a connection with the Lake Natoma Trail north of US 50. The trail provides a direct connection to three light rail stations—Historic Folsom, Glenn and Iron Point—and two massive office parks, as well as the popular Folsom Premium Outlets retail center.

The utilitarian trail, which runs alongside the light rail line for most of its journey, also provides a direct trail connection to the immense Humbug-Willow Creek Trail.

Parking and Trail Access

Free parking for the Folsom Parkway Rail Trail is available at the Iron Point, Glenn and Historic Folsom light rail stations. All three stations can be accessed from Folsom Boulevard.

Folsom Parkway Rail Trail Reviews

Folsom South Canal

Rode it 5/19/2017, from Aquatic center, take Gold Country (Aquatic Center Exit) to Trubutary Crossing (south) to enter Folsom South Canal. Nice ride to Sunrise Blvd......with a convenient Subway at the end. All flat, zero traffic hazard.

Good for commuting or for a quick walk at lunch

This is a utilitarian trail, linking businesses and public transit along Folsom's west side, and providing a necessary link to Folsom's extensive network of multi-use trails.

This trail begins, at the northern end, near the corner of Sutter and Reading streets as an unusually wide asphalt sidewalk.

This sidewalk disappears at Natoma Street, but Oakdale Street makes a plausible substitute. At Bidwell Street a more familiar center-striped asphalt path appears and carries on all the way to the parking lot at the Iron Point light rail station.

From the trail's end at the parking lot it is possible to connect to the multi-use trails along the American river. First, walk through the parking lot and through the light rail station to the intersection of Folsom Blvd. and Iron Point Rd., then use the pedestrian crossing to cross Folsom Blvd. continuing to the river trails.

In addition to all the street crossings, the trail may be entered (from north to south) from Figueroa St.; from the Humbug Trail; and from a feeder trail coming from Natoma Station Dr. at Turnpike Dr.

All street crossings after Bidwell are equipped with pedestrian push-button signals, however care must be taken crossing Bidwell from north to south due to the blind corner on Bidwell to the east.

There is plenty of shade on this trail, welcome on a warm day.
