The paved trail running through Nick Saelens Memorial Park is a pretty one, with a loop around a small pond and much of it following a tree-lined creek. The park is nestled in the Village of Durand in northern Illinois and offers athletic facilities, a playground, and easy access to the surrounding neighborhoods and businesses.
Parking lots are available in Saelens Park (106 S. Dayton Street).
This is a fine trail, but no longer gives you distances like it used to. I had to guess how far I went based on a silly 200 ft. bar at bottom of map. Seriously with all the walking/biking competitions for good health going on, how hard is it to give the mileage of the path?
It is a short, flat asphalt trail, so if the kids get tired it doesn’t take long to get back to the car. Also you can stop and have them swing in the playground. New this year is the frisbee golf. Share the trail with them.
