Print Friendly MapParalleling State Route 21, this multiuse path provides an important connection between the charming community of Keystone Heights and Gold Head Branch State Park.
The trail begins downtown at a connection with the Palatka-to-Lake Butler State Trail, which extends more than 20 miles to the outskirts of Palatka. From that trail intersection, the SR 21 path heads northeast on a paved, diagonal route leading directly to the front entrance of the park. Along the way, a wide grassy median keeps the trail at a comfortable distance from traffic.
Gold Head Branch State Park, which opened in the 1930s, is one of Florida’s oldest state parks. There is a nominal fee to enter the park, but it offers a wealth of recreational opportunities, including camping, swimming, canoeing, fishing, picnicking, wildlife viewing, and additional hiking and biking trails.
On the trail's southwestern end, ample parking is available along the main streets of Keystone Heights. On its northeastern end, parking can be found in Gold Head Branch State Park (6239 Florida 21).
We camped at "Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park" to ride the Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail.
Found this SR-21 trail on TrailLink and rode the last part of the Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail from here. It is about a three mile ride from the campground to the SR-21 trail. Some rolling hills makes for an interesting ride. The first 5.5 miles a pleasure to ride. Last 0.5 mile trail "stops" and sidewalks to the Western end at SR-100
