The Tramway Recreation Trail follows Tramway Boulevard, a major north-south route on the eastern edge of Albuquerque. The path runs along the foothills that skirt the city, offering spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande Valley. As the route does cross some busy roads, trail-goers should use caution through the pedestrian crossings.
Near the southern end of the trail, travelers can pick up the I-40 Trail at the corner of Tramway Boulevard and US Route 66 to reach Los Altos Park, a popular recreational destination. The Tramway Recreation Trail also connects to the Embudo Recreation Trail, which heads west for 1.6 miles.
Parking is available on near the north end of the trail at W.L. Jackson Park (8600 Tramway Blvd. NE) and mid-trail at Canine Skyline Dog Park (12700 Montgomery Blvd. NE).
I moved here from Seattle 8 years ago and I guess I'm just spoiled. The 2 trails that I walked there had restrooms, benches along the way, and parking all along the trail. I'm 76 years old and in good shape but the hill from my house to the trail is hard on my knees. I would like to be able to drive and park somewhere near the trail to start my walk without having to drive 10 miles to get there. I only live a few blocks from the trail but the walk there is too steep. Also, once I'm on the trail there are no restrooms or drinking fountains. It is all very disappointing.
I road the entire trail yesterday both ways: over 17 miles. Trail is in good condition and offers beautiful views of the city below and the mountains above. Great, flat, paved trail!
A light wind day on excellent Northern Section of the Trail. Noel Keller
Tramway Recreation Trail I have pedaled the entire Trail years ago. This time only a short section to get a couple of pictures. Surface is in good condition. Well utilized this Sunday. 15 Mar 15 Noel Keller
