The West Ellerbee Creek Trail winds along the stream of the same name and is part of Durham's North-South Greenway, a series of multiuse trails crossing the city of Durham.
Beginning by Indian Trail Park (2309 Indian Trail, Durham) in the Watts-Hillandale area of Durham, the paved trail travels through 17-acre Preserve, a protected area of restored riparian woodland. Skirting the north end of Westover Park, the trail crosses Guess Street and ducks under I-85. The I-85 underpass consists of a boardwalk over sensitive wetlands, but the trail transitions back to pavement as it winds northeast. The trail crosses North Pointe Road where residents can access big box retail and other stores. Proceeding to Broad Street, the trail connects to the Stadium Drive Trail, which provides a link with the Ellerbee Creek Trail to the south and the Warren Creek Trail in the north.
Durham's public transit system, GoDurham, provides easy access to the trail. Visit the GoDurham website to plan your visit and view the TrailLink map for the closest transit stops.
For those driving, parking is available at Westover Park (1859 Maryland Avenue). The trail is just beyond the circle. The park also features a water fountain, play area and picnic facilities. Visit the TrailLink map for detailed directions.
Just ended to soon to be useful for biking.
Really nice trail! The section behind Costco is really nice. There is a cool tunnel under I-85 with murals. Be really careful at the Guess Road crossing. The western section has cool art work, and it ends at a nice park.
