Hoover Park to Ely

May, 2020 by phs_tl

This is a nice almost 7 mile ride round trip. My kids 7, 9, and 12 enjoy this route because the turn around point for us is at Dan and Deb’s creamery. ¿¿. Nice canopied area of trees for part of it as well.

Grant Wood Trail (Linn County Segment)

Grant Wood Trail (April 2020)

April, 2020 by jkn8705

As a previous review noted, this is definitely more of a primitive bike path. Nonetheless, my ride was an enjoyable one: nearly uninterrupted solitude. The surface varies from crushed limestone to grass (as the trail continues further eastward). There is a brief segment (0.8 miles) where county highway E45 connects the two segments of the trail in Linn County, and this county highway has a paved shoulder. I found the trail surface to be manageable on 28mm tires when it has been dry for a day or two. Otherwise you may want to consider beefier tires for riding on this path.

Heritage Trail

August, 2019 by melshan

Great ride! Combines beauty and a little bit of challenge as ride out to Dyersville has the slightest of incline. Trail itself is in good shape, well packed with no ruts or overgrown areas. Many well marked parking areas to enter trail, allowing for all abilities to enjoy! Lots of beauty to see in the heart of Iowa farm country.

Cedar Valley Nature Trail

Wonderful trail

August, 2018 by ekman.carla

This is a local trail for us so we ride it frequently. We normally ride from Ely to check village in Cedar Rapids or from Hiawatha to Center point. When we ride in Cedar Rapids in Hiawatha there are quite a few streets to cross that are fairly busy. This can slow you down a little bit and you need to be extremely cautious. We have never ridden past Center point so I don’t know what the trail is like after that however the trail is in excellent condition and a joy to ride from Ely to Center Point

Kewash Nature Trail

Recommended trail

May, 2018 by jngaan

I ride trails in Kansas City, have ridden on portions of The Katy Trail, etc. this trail isn’t in as good of shape as The Katy Trail but it was good enough to have a great ride! I rode from Keota to Washington. The first day was a day after a storm and there were branches, vegetation and some mud spots. All part of a nature trail bike ride. The next day most of the vegetation, branches, etc were cleared. The trail was dried up and it was very good. It is mostly flat with small inclines and declines. Great ride!

Cedar Valley Nature Trail

Evansdale to La Porte City

July, 2017 by emilyprochaska11

I headed south from Evansdale toward La Porte City. It's a good trail in the fact that it's flat so I didn't have to struggle with lots of hills like some other trails around the Cedar Valley. However there is a part of the trail closer to Evansdale that is gone in which you have to take your bike on a little dirt path to continue riding. There is also a bridge out closer to La Porte City. I hope they plan on fixing these issues so that the trail is in better shape.

World Class Trail

July, 2017 by rodmatthews77

I'm spoiled. This trail is about 2 miles from my home. I ride it every chance I get. Scenery is varied and beautiful, the trail is maintained well, and I have seen a variety of wildlife on my rides. By the way, the trail connects with a trail that goes through Dubuque and down to the Mighty Mississippi River..

Great Trail! One of my favorites in the Coulees of the Missisippi.

June, 2017 by dean.smith_tl

We rode this trail (with our trailer and little dog). Great surface. Great ride. Incredible scenery. I appreciate having the signs along the way about the history of the railroad and the area. It was interesting seeing the Sundown Ski area from the other side of the river. This is probably our third favorite rail trail after route of the Hiawatha and trail of the Coeur d'Alenes and one of the best the mid-western trails.
