Frost-thaw cycle on stone dust trails

December, 2017 by blueskye

The previous reviewer indicated there was standing water on the trail in Andover. This is due to frost-thaw cycle that starts in November. The stone dust trails become very mucky once this starts and makes cycling a bit harder and messier. Paving would solve the problem.

Hop River State Park Trail

A Post-Thanksgiving Ride

November, 2017 by peasenh

This trail is great; what a gem. I can see why the locals refer to it as a favorite. The two reasons we didn't rate it a 5 is the standing water on a couple sections near Andover, CT (there's been no rain in days) and secondly, for a 3-wheeled recumbent trike -- the un-passable automobile barriers at the road crossings (had to carry our trike over the stones adjacent to the barrier). The trail has a few areas with small grades but for the most-part is really flat. The trail surface is hard packed, we saw numerous skinny wheeled street bikes experiencing no difficulties once so ever. The trail is heavily used but everyone we encountered was respectful of other users right-of-way. My wife rode the trail on a recumbent trike and I on a Mt bike.

Air Line State Park Trail

Airline Trail - South

November, 2017 by CW4

A note to everyone: The 1 mile section of the Airline Trail From Route 149 in Colchester to the Blackledge River bridge is now resurfaced. The trail is now finished from Alden's Crossing in East Hampton to South Brook Road in Hampton, where a 3.5 mile stretch of rough gravel slows you down, before the trail finishes in Promfret Station at Route 169. Get out and ride!!

Hop River Improvements

October, 2017 by CW4

The last 1/2 mile of final surfacing from the Route 6 bridges to King Road is done, and a nice job too!

Windham hopes to have the bridge over the Willimantic River and that section out to bid in the spring of 2018.

Trail in good shape

September, 2017 by tangodelta

The improved section of the trail has been extended further at the Holliston end. There is now an nice packed stone dust surface starting across the street from the Sam Placentino school in Holliston and running all the way to the paved portion that starts at the Milford town line.

Air Line State Park Trail

Lovely Trail - with the exception of one section

September, 2017 by nkdonahue

I had a great time riding this trail last Sunday. I started in Pomfret from the old railroad station parking lot on Railroad Street.

I rode 7.5 miles, then reached a very long section which was covered in rocks that were sharp edged, about 1 1/2inches on a side. I took a break and enjoyed the view over the wetland area there. I was just able to ride over that rocky section on my cross bike, but it was a rough and uncomfortable ride. It went on for around three miles!!

I'm curious to know why this one section is prepared so differently from the rest of the trail.

I rated the Air Line trail a 4 of 5 stars. When I previewed my review, it showed more like 15 stars. Why is that?

Air Line State Park Trail

fantastic running trail

September, 2017 by cooperdx

Was searching high and low for a long trail like this for long runs. Went here for the first time this past weekend and it completely surpassed any expectations I had. Everyone was super friendly! The views were amazing. Will be even more beautiful in the fall. Can't wait to keep running here and bringing my dog along as well!

Blackstone River Greenway (RI)

Nice views but very bumpy

September, 2017 by al_b111

What a difference a year makes. I reviewed this trail back in June 2016 with only nice things to say. The ride has nice views along the Blackstone River. The few bumps that I encountered last year has definitely increased. The only work done on these very large bumps is spray paint them so you see them before you get injured by hitting them. I found that the area with the biggest problems are between the 2 overpasses (rt116 and rt146). But they are really everywhere.

Shining Sea Bikeway

One of my favorites.

August, 2017 by lughnerson

Dateline June 26, 2017, perfect weather, clear in the low 70's. Camped in Sandwich, MA and went to a different bike trail every day. This was the best. Starting in N. Falmouth, a bike shop close by, the trail goes through pine barrens, past cranberry bogs, inlets of bay, directly on/by a nice beach where lots of bikers stop, and down to Woods Hole for refreshments. On the way back took a detour through Falmouth, past another bike shop. One of my favorite rides ever.

Mattapoisett Rail Trail

Part of the Phoenix Bike Trail

August, 2017 by lughnerson

Short and wonderful. Very smooth and gentle hills. I could not tell where this one and Phoenix joined, so it was all one to me.

Phoenix Bike Trail

Short but worth it

August, 2017 by lughnerson

This is just a really nice suburban bike path with some lovely scenic vistas. I spent 3 days in Cape Cod, doing a different bike trail each day. This was the last and shortest. It was really a nice way to end my trip, see some vistas of Cape Cod Bay and those new to me wind turbines. At one point I was riding almost directly underneath one and could hear the gentle sound of the rotating blades. There is one very cool stop that is a concrete pier looking onto a bay marsh.
