Air Line State Park Trail

Beware

October, 2026 by 8jp5rr55yf

So I started this trail in Portland, Connecticut, and about 3 to 4 miles into it. It stops at a marsh river area. There is no sign to tell you that it does or what detour to take. You would have to get on the main road to avoid this section. And the way people drive on that road I wouldn’t trust it. From what I heard, they were supposed to build a bridge over this section but said they were waiting for EPA to be involved which was years ago so I would highly recommend that you start in East Hampton for continued access.

Cape Cod Rail Trail

Map shows straight path but you have to take a 1/4 mile jog on the main road. Poor signage.

William C. O'Neill Bike Path

Beautiful trail

September, 2026 by susan.restivo

I love the quiet and beauty of this trail.
However, last time I was there someone
drove on the path on a scooter. I didn’t know this was allowed. It wasn’t the type to help with mobility issues.
It was loud and disturbing to the dogs walking.

Shining Sea Bikeway

amazing trail

August, 2026 by sun.girl72

Once we figured out how to access the trail from the trailhead (hint.. it's tucked in right at the railroad tracks), we proceeded on to enjoy the beauty of this trail. As a first timer to the Cape, this trail showed me all I had hoped to see and experience. From woods, to murals, to water features, the rock beach and then finally the ferry, I was in awe the entire ride. You will find some tree root areas to be aware of and it's a busy path in many places but so worth it.

Cape Cod Rail Trail

decent paved trail

August, 2026 by snlvr

Although not as scenic as I had hoped it would be, it’s a nice enough trail. It can be busy with walker, runners and bicyclists of all ages. Many places that cross over roads but drivers seem to adhere to signs to watch for pedestrian and bike traffic. Trail is well marked as far as signage goes. There is one section that goes on a regular road for a short time but there is a bike lane and good signage to follow. Trail is largely shaded by tree canopies.

Washington Secondary Bike Path

Lovely lovely trail!

August, 2026 by amygallatin

We rode from the parking lot at Quidnick St. in West Warwick to the abrupt end of the trail in Summit (Coventry), about 20 mi round trip. Pavement in very good shape. Trail is shaded for much of the way making for a pleasant ride. Lots of views of ponds, lakes, reservoirs and streams. Significant uphill climb to the end of the trail in Coventry but a screaming downhill for much of the way back. We plan to return in the fall, foliage will doubtless be stunning. Trail is paved throughout, and the western part of the trail is shared with equestrians, although sadly we did not see any.

Pine Tree Brook Path

Good for little kids Mountain Biking

August, 2026 by andrew.magruder

My 6 and 9 year old grandsons rode the 2.5 round trip with maybe 100 feet of walking their 20” mt bikes over rough spots and a couple of logs. The trail is 95% shaded. We parked on Breck Rd and crossed Thacher Rd to the trailhead. Lafayette Rd has a large circle at its end by Pope’s Pond that you clearly can park at.

Air Line State Park Trail

geminird review misleading

August, 2026 by atclaw

This rider was going Northeast from Willimantic towards Hampton NOT Southwest from Willimantic to East Hampton. Having ridden both stretches I can say his description is completely wrong about the gorgeous and open riding Southeastern route and not completely wrong but somewhat overly harsh about his route which can get iffy for stretches.

Upper Charles Trail

Tale of Two Trails

August, 2026 by trylondm

Biked end to end today. Best described as two very different rail trails that are joined by a squirrelly connection.

Holliston (eastern) end is beautiful stone dust surface. It can be soft in places but is a terrific, well-maintained trail with excellent historical signage (think Casey at the Bat) and an unusually attractive short tunnel. Trail is long and straight and crosses several swampy water features chock full of flowers and wildlife. Sadly, the trail ends abruptly at the Holliston border with Sherborn with a short connector to a small parking lot.

The Holliston segment changes to pavement at the Milford town line and adds another mile or so to that segment. After that, there are a number of road crossings (some major) and sidewalks to make it to the main Milford rail trail.

The Milford segment is better described as a paved bike path that spends some time on a former railroad bed. The pavement is generally excellent, with only a few root heaves. It too is very attractive and an enjoyable ride as it winds through the woods and beside a lake. After an easier-than-expected crossing of the I-495 corridor, the trail continues north for another mile or so of rail trail until ending at the Hopkinton border.

All in all, each segment gets a 5 rating, each for very different reasons. The connection between the two is less interesting and makes the end-to-end experience less desirable. But credit where credit is due: Massachusetts drivers were invariably polite and respectful of the warning lights at all flashing road crossings. I'm not sure I could say the same about drivers in my home state.

South County Bike Path

August, 2026 by jeffjmtech

I began riding this trail long before it was paved and frequented the section between South Road and the train station. I prefer the quieter northern section but the parts in town really get you through town without being in traffic. Overall great trail, can’t wait to ride end to end again someday and add the URI extension.

Moosup Valley State Park Trail

Lovely trail

August, 2026 by amygallatin

We rode this trail yesterday from the parking lot at Dunkin' Donuts in Moosup all the way to the Rhode Island border. The surface alternates between paved and stone dust/fine gravel and is very well maintained throughout. You can see where dirt bikes would have access coming through the trees down some of the steep banks but we did not see any, unlike the situation that other reviews have mentioned. Perhaps reinforcing an unfortunate state stereotype, immediately upon crossing over into Rhode Island where it is then called The Trestle Trail, after about 6 miles, the trail deteriorates significantly into a dirt trail and likely would be fairly muddy when wet with lots of deep puddles. I also noticed an immediate onslaught of bugs which was interesting. We turned around at this point as we only wanted to ride the Connecticut portion. I was very curious after reading all the reviews over the years about how bad this trail used to be. If you're looking for solitude this is your trail, as opposed to many of the Connecticut trails to the West. We maybe saw five or six people for our entire ride. The guy who owns the house in the quarry is super friendly, as is his German Shepherd Fiona, and offered us water since the day was fairly hot after seeing us from his porch. I highly recommend this trail if you're looking for a quiet, shorter 12-mile round trip ride. Only downside: zero porta potties along the route. You can hit the Dunkin' Do restroom before and after the ride.
