An asphalt sidepath trail that runs along the east side of Chayote Road, the Chayote Trail helps to link the Enchanted Hills Path and the Enchanted Hills Boulevard Trail, forming a looping trail network that runs throughout this suburban enclave in the northern reaches of Rio Rancho. Due to its proximity to the roadway, the trail might not have much scenic appeal for the cyclists and pedestrians who use it, but it serves a useful purpose in helping residents in the adjoining neighborhoods move around the community - the southern end of the trail leads right to a local elementary school, giving families an easy means of biking and walking to school. The northern end of the trail stops just before the barrier formed by the highway, which also marks the edge of current development in the area before the desert foothills take over.
Parking for the trail may be available at Vista Grande Elementary School at 7001 Chayote Road; be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations.
