The Enchanted Hills Boulevard Trail, as its name suggests, hugs the northeast side of Enchanted Hills Boulevard for about three miles in the northern reaches of Rio Rancho, a sprawling and growing suburb of Albuquerque. This sidepath trail provides a very useful alternative to the busy 40-mph road it parallels, allowing cyclists and pedestrians to get around with ease across a large stretch of the suburban area. Due to the roadside nature of the trail, there are a good many road crossings required, and the trail does not provide the most attractive surroundings - although it does pass right by the play areas and green space that constitutes Enchanted Hills Park along its route.
The northwestern end of the trail creates a link with the Chayote Trail, which in turn leads north to the Enchanted Hills Path, creating a loose looping system of trails that covers much of this northern residential cluster. Offering a wide, largely flat pathway that provides way more accommodation than your typical sidewalk, the Enchanted Hills Boulevard Trail gives residents an off-road option for getting to shops and other destinations and a functional, if maybe not-so beautiful, recreation option.
Parking is available along the trail at Enchanted Hills Park, located at 7201 Enchanted Hills Boulevard NE off of Torino Hills Road. Additional parking may be available at the ends of the trail via the elementary school parking lot or local business lots; be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations.
