Located in the in South Huntsville mixed-use development known as Hays Farm, Elgie's Walk Greenway provides a tranquil excursion through the community's well-preserved forest, fields and springs (known as Rena and Elgie Hays Green Park). The paved, 12-foot-wide trail runs along Haysland Road between Redstone Road and Grissom High School. The trail is non-motorized and suitable for users of a wide range of ages and abilities.
This trail, and the future additional miles in Hays Farm are part of the Singing River Trail, which when complete, will be a 70-mile multiuse trail between Huntsville and Decatur. Future plans include extending the trail to Ditto Landing and make connections to the Tennessee River Greenway and Aldrige Creek Greenway.
Park at Bell Mountain Park (2560 Redstone Rd SW, Huntsville, AL) on the south end of the trail. The park is 500 or so feet from the start of the trail on Redstone Road.
Nice flat 2 mile trail connecting to short bike path to South parkway.
About half this pleasant short trail is in shade and half in sun. Watch for interesting wildlife, including herons, owls, turtles, snakes, beavers (if they haven’t been killed off ¿), and even alligators. Watched a large (5-6ft) one sunbathing back in May and a small (12-18in) one this week (Sept4). Nice trail. Stay out of the ponds. Looking forward to linking this trail to new ones in near future.
This is a peaceful and pretty little trail which winds through woods and around ponds. Only 2.3 miles so far but it looks like it will be continued. Park at Bell Park which does have a bathroom.
2 mile quiet ride on paved trail. Not much to look at but has ponds and woods. I imagine in the spring and summer this trail will be pretty over time. It sits right outside of RSA gate 3.
