Ellerbee Creek Trail Description

The Ellerbee Creek Trail is part of a chain of trails running across Durham, known as the North-South Greenway. This trail picks up where the Stadium Drive Trail leaves off, on Stadium Drive next to the National Guard Armory and Rock Quarry Park (701 Stadium Dr, Durham).

While the Stadium Drive Trail is a route that mostly uses sidewalks, the majority of the Ellerbee Creek Trail is off-road. The paved, 10-foot-wide trail meanders south from Stadium Drive and moves away from the street as it heads deeper into the leafy natural areas of Rock Quarry Park. Just short of Murray Avenue a spur of the trail branches off to the Aquatics Center, Recreation Center and Museum of Life and Science.

Crossing Murray Avenue, the trail continues into Northgate Park (300 W Club Blvd, Durham), skirting around the dog park, with the creek flowing alongside.

The trail emerges on Club Boulevard, the southern border of the park. This 0.3-mile section of the trail is also known as the West Club Boulevard Trail. From the corner of W Club Boulevard and Glendale Avenue, the route uses sidewalks as it passes under I-85 and follows W Club Boulevard to Washington Street, where the next off-road section of the North-South Greenway, the South Ellerbee Creek Trail, begins.

Combine the Ellerbee Creek Trail with the South Ellerbee Creek Trail, and the West Ellerbee Creek Trail for 5.15 miles of paved, mostly off-road trail.
