The Fred Thwaites Grand River Trail, also known as the Ionia River Trail, travels for just over 3 miles along the edge of Grand River. The paved pathway begins at Quarry Road and travels to the Ionia County Fairgrounds. Much of the tree-lined route follows a former rail line that once connected Ionia and Lansing. A restored railroad bridge offers views of the river.
Just a few blocks north of and parallel to the trail is the Fred Meijer Grand River Valley Trail, which connects Ionia to Lowell.
Parking can be found on the trail's western end at the Ionia County Fairgrounds. On the trail's eastern end, trail parking is also available off Quarry Road and Cleveland Street.
An enjoyable yet short trip.
The Grand River is common sight throughout the trail and and plant is lush and abundant and otherwise there isn't anything to see here but I would recommend it.
Nice nature experience
