Following a stretch of Mount Rose Highway and Old Virginia Road in a suburban part of southern Reno, the Mount Rose and Old Virginia Bike Path provides a route to help cyclists and pedestrians navigate this rapidly-growing community. The asphalt trail hugs the side of the busy roadways, taking trail users past commercial strips that line the highway interchange - there isn't much separating the trail from the roads, so don't expect a very scenic, removed trail experience.
The trail crosses over the ends of several highway on and off ramps, so be sure to exercise caution even with the marked crossings. While it may not have the natural appeal of even nearby suburban neighborhood trails, the bikeway provides a nice route to aid in the ability of nearby residents to get around without needing a car.
Trail users may be able to find parking at local businesses along the route of the trail; be sure to follow any posted signs and regulations.
