Florence Rail Trail (SC)

We parked at the southwest end of the trail and walked 1.5 miles in. There is plenty of shade along the portion we did. The trail was paved for the first mile, followed by crushed stone. Well worth walking if you are in the area.

Campbell Creek Greenway

great for both walking and cycling

It’s a nice walk from Margaret Wallace parking area to Longmont. The grist mill ruin is cool to see, and it’s relatively serene given its proximity to independence blvd.

Twelve Mile Creek Trail

No trail markers - difficult to navigate

March, 2025 by patricia5431

Not for someone who's not used to trails with no markers! My walk started off great and I started from Waxhaw, 7900 Prescott Glen Pkwy- beautiful walk but after walking a few miles there was a threat of rain so I turned around and obviously took a wrong path because nothing is marked! I walked out to a street hoping to find direction but it was pouring rain. I stopped to ask directions from a couple on their porch with young children and they said I was about 3 miles from where I parked and offered me a ride. These larger parks need trail markers because this was an experience I could have done without!

Pinehurst Greenway

More suitable for walkers/runners

March, 2025 by mlawlor72

Rode this trail yesterday during a gorgeous spring day. The trail is mixed surface from packed sand, to loose sand, some asphalt, gravel and roots. It is not a wide path. Narrow in places. Does cross over a train track which was fun to watch. I can’t say I would recommend this for a bike ride - I found myself going on the road in areas - but it would be lovely for walkers & runners. Safe area. Loved the historic area!

Four Mile Creek Greenway (Town of Matthews)

Great for strollers

November, 2024 by mrsbeem2019

We love this trail. Sometimes bikers don’t use proper etiquette when passing families with small children; however, it’s a great trail for families. Watch out for baby brown snakes. They come up every once in a while, typically after a storm.

McAlpine Creek Greenway

more than 4 miles

Nice trail with more than 4 miles if you include gravel/dirt surface trails that wind through some pretty woods. Can be busy on the weekends especially on the paved portion of the trail.

Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail

Not Kid Friendly

February, 2024 by britneelong06

It definitely is not kid friendly. There are too many roots, holes, and giant rocks to use a stroller and my 5 year old kept tripping over it all we didn’t make it a very far before we had to turn around. We will come back just not with the little ones.

Lindsay Pettus Greenway

This was a good run. The trail is mostly flat. It's measured out and it's accurate. I really enjoyed this route and plan to revisit.

Cyclists beware!

September, 2023 by shtrahan03

The boardwalks are very slippery for cyclists. I lost control of my bike in 2022 and while I was down, another cyclist did the same thing and nearly landed on top of me. A torn rotator cuff, surgery, and 7 months of rehab later, I will not be cycling on this greenway again. I do love the shade in the summer though!

McAlpine Creek Greenway

very nice trail

Well maintained and is used a lot. Never find yourself alone on this trail.

Lower McAlpine Creek, McMullen Creek & Four Mile Creek Greenways

Needs more maintenance

September, 2023 by joenad55

I jog this trail, and is part paved and part boardwalk. One positive is the tree cover which provides shade even in afternoon hours. The boardwalk areas need to be maintained better as the boards need to be replaced more frequently as the boards get chewed up and sometimes I have to watch my step. They do replace the worst ones, but not frequently enough. Does get flooded and muddy after a heavy rain to the point it can be unusable. The Rea Road ending point has fountains and a bathroom.
