Legacy Trail, Lexington, KY

October, 2017 by rtool

Rode this trail on 30 Sep as part of the BourbonCountryBurn bike tour. Rode from KY Horse Park Campground to downtown Lexington. Trail is very well maintained. Has plenty of information markers along it about the surrounding area and it’s history. Takes you to many old restaurants in the Lexington area.

Town Branch Trail (KY)

Lots of potential, but not much of it yet realized

August, 2017 by crimefighter560

This is a nice little trail slightly over two miles in length running from Masterston Station Park to Alexandria Drive. It seems to be a decent place to be enjoyed by those who live in the neighborhoods to which it is connected, but, at this point, isn't really useful for any other purpose. There are no trailheads or public parking of any kind. There seem to be long term plans to extend the trail along the existing rail corridor toward downtown Lexington, but those plans have been around for a while and very little has materialized. Lexington has been very good at following through with its trail projects. One would have to assume that this one is not very high on the list of priorities.

Louisville Loop

Louisville Loop (m. 54.5 to m. 74.0)

July, 2017 by connie40023

This is a scenic trail through 4 beautiful parks and a 5 mile connecting section (all off road) all along Floyd's Fork in easy reach of Louisville Metro. The trail is nicely paved the entire way with access to water fountains, restrooms, and bicycle repair stations strategically placed along the way. The trail provides a nice mix of terrain ranging from flat to rolling to hilly. This is a family friendly destination with canoe / kayak and bike rentals along with shuttle service in the park. There are even play and spraygrounds in a couple of the parks.

Legacy Trail (KY)

Pleasant ride into Lexington

April, 2017 by bruceamiller@comcast.net

In April 2017 a friend and I took a break from interstate driving to ride the Legacy Trail into Lexington and back to its north end. The trail is good pavement and well marked. We liked the frequent signs telling the history and ecology of the area. Also, artists painted the trail surface in places, so it was fun to see their work. If you have time, ride into Lexington from the south end of the trail, to see the restored houses and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Louisville Loop

milemarker 14-25

October, 2016 by scibek

it has potential, under heavy construction as i write this; some new construction, some resurfacing the existing. interesting that the old part has been around long enough to need resurfacing before these new parts have been laid. the equipment on this sunday was parked trailside. on the west side of town beyond milemarker 14-25 in either direction, the trail presently doesn't appear to be rideable or perhaps even existing.

Louisville Loop

Beautiful but Challenging Scenic Ride

October, 2016 by mcalla7293

Entered this trail at Shelbyville road and completed a 30 mile round trip. The hills can be a real challenge if you are not accustomed to them. The surface is great and is a mix of asphalt and concrete. If you ride a recumbent where you sit back so far that you use a neck rest the expansion joints in the concrete can become annoying. The trail is very scenic with plenty of trail access points and several restrooms available along the way. When the whole Louisville Loop Trail is completed and circles all of Louisville (100 miles of trails I believe) this will be a real jewel for Kentucky.

Legacy Trail (KY)

great break from interstate driving

September, 2016 by robinsonfk

Passing through Lexington on I-75, we rode the Legacy trail on Sept 21 starting from the KY Horse Park. Ride on a beautifully constructed and well maintained paved surface along horse farms in the north, gradually becoming more urban as you move south. Very little shade for a hot day, and some sections paralleling noisy I-75, but with many picturesque open vistas. We encountered one short paved detour around a water construction project which was easy to navigate. Near the YMCA at the south end there is a 2.0 Mile trail marker, but the trail apparently ends there for now (it would be nice to add signage indicating the trail end). At the north end, the trail has been recently extended to the NW corner of the Horse Park, but that section is along I-75, even though the view East over the horse pastures is great. The Horse Park is also beautifully maintained and landscaped and worth exploring while there. Convenient campground with showers are available in the Horse Park Campground just East of the Horse Park. This trail is a great break from interstate driving.

Smooth, well maintained, beautiful scenery. A great ride.

Brighton East Rail Trail

Good for walks or short runs

August, 2016 by nicfox13

This is a clean, well maintained and safe trail. There is a lot of shade to keep cool. It's very frequented, but not crowded. I can't wait until they extend it further.

Legacy Trail (KY)

Challenging and Beautiful

July, 2016 by doitgreen

I just started riding my bicycle again a few months ago and finally decided to ride the legacy trail. I have enjoyed this trail immensely. The scenery is great and the trail is well maintained. I do wish there were a water fountain or two along this trail, however I suppose one can carry their own water with them. I have made this trail a staple to my weekly work outs. (At least weather permitting)

Legacy Trail (KY)

Quite nice.

July, 2016 by t2xanders

This really is a nice trail. It is obvious this was not a cheap trail to build. It is fully paved and there are several steel bridges that are bike path only. I will enjoy it again next time I am down there. Also, if you enjoy MTB check out Veteran's Park. That is a really funny and flowy MTB trail.

Heritage Trail of Madison

Nature, Exercise, and Beauty

June, 2016 by lisa.kelsay.j5wy

We usually start this trail parked at the State Hospital N Road. We loop around the grounds and then head down the Heritage Trail to the bottom of the hill. You can choose to come up the same way or walk the railroad tracks that also lead to the top of the hill with a diversion onto Hwy 7 for a few feet.

We always see deer, groundhogs, skunks, and all kinds of birds. This is a beautiful trail that we know is worth the drive to get to.
