Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail

Great Trail, BUT...

October, 2017 by aseasyas123

I live in Houston and I've heard a lot of great reviews about this trail. Finally me & my wife drove almost 6 hours round trip and rode this trail on 10/21/2017 and here is my thought about this trail.
1. The length of the trail is great and same as the scenery.
2. The best part of the trail is the boardwalk and the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge.
3. My wife complains about the why the trail is not paved, it was too dusty.
4. SIGNS! The trail need a lot of signs especially the east end of the lake (Longhorn Dam & Holly St.). We went over to the east side of the S Pleasant Valley Rd. because there was no sigh to give us the right direction and the trail became almost invisible at the baseball field at Riverview St.
5. MAPS! Lacking of the "You Are Here" Maps, we could not get a good idea of which part of the trail we were at.

This could be a 5-star trail if there are enough signs & maps, please improve...

OLLU loop

June, 2017 by lola_morgan

I rode this trail a week ago from the mission trail with goal of looping around OLLU and back to add mileage to the mission trail. It was empty except homeless people under bridges, some covered with sheets, giving the experience a bit of the macabre. I turned around and won't go back until usage is up.

love this trail

June, 2017 by luv2ridemb09_tl

We always start at Hardberger Park. We ride the trail to Huebner Rd and turn around ride past the park to ride all the way to Holbrook near the National Guard. On this trail you do have several streets crossings to continue on the trail. When you get to Holbrook you are riding on the road and I normally turn around at the RR tracks. You can continue on this route to Jack White Park and continue down to SouthLions park. You are riding on the Frontage road to Jack White Park and the way back is a little tricky from Jack White and Holbrook road. That RR track is active and a stops on the Holbrook crossing then you are stuck until it moves forward. RT from Huebner Rd to the RR tracks is 32 miles. If you go all the way to South Lions & back add 18 miles to the 32

Medina River Trail

ISOLATED BUT NICE

March, 2017 by ovaca_tl

THIS TRAIL IS SOMEWHAT ISOLATED BUT VERY QUIET AND SERENE. THERE ARE TWO STEEP DECLINES AND INCLINES NEAR THE BEGINNING OF THE TRAIL THAT YOU HAVE TO WALK BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME ZIG ZAG PATTERN BUT AFTER THAT THE TRAIL IS VERY EASY. AT THE END THE LAST 3/4 MILE IS DIRT. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO EXTEND IT A COUPLE OF MILES IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I SAW TWO PEOPLE WALKING AND THREE TRAIL STEWARDS ON MY VISIT. THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS THAT THE RIVER IS NOT EASILY VISIBLE FROM THE TRAIL. YOU HAVE TO STOP AT A REST POINT TO ENJOY THE RIVER SCENERY. I ALSO SAW A WILD PIG AND FIVE LITTLE ONES FOLLOWING MAMA. THERE IS A WARNING SIGN FOR SNAKES BUT I DID NOT SEE ANY. I DID SEE A ROADRUNNER.

Great Ride

Great scenery and very few road crossings. The northern end of the trail has been extended for about one mile. The signage is a bit confusing, with little branches coming off the main trail.

New Road Surface = Great Ride!

February, 2017 by s_byrd

Thanks to the crew who laid down the new surface I can update and improve my previous rating. Beautiful new tarmac is a real pleasure to ride.

Tarmac needs a refresh

January, 2017 by s_byrd

Great for the most part - nice variety of elevations and even a short technical climb. Also some good places to practice cornering skills. But the surface is cracked throughout the course and in dire need of resurfacing. Cracks are painted bright red, as they should be, by a diligient crew. Ride with caution.

Salado Creek Greenway

Very nice trail.

January, 2017 by sevans201

We rode 9 miles on the Salado Creek Greenway today. We got on the trail at Ladybird Johnson trail. The temperature was great for January but the scenery was still kind of bleak. I'm sure the trail will be gorgeous in a few months. Can't wait to use the trail again. Wonderful trail.

San Antonio River Walk Hike & Bike Path

love this park

January, 2017 by luv2ridemb09_tl

We start at Rosevelt Park. It is 18 miles of rolling hills along listening to the river and seeing wildlife. A new shoot have been added - Apache Creek way to the Mission trails. It is out and back but I wouldn't ride it by myself because surrounding area it goes through. I have seen trail stewards riding it but not park police

Leon Creek Greenway

really nice trail

January, 2017 by luv2ridemb09_tl

There is the concrete trail for road bikes and dirt trails for mountain bikes. The concrete trail is 24 miles from I-10 Druary Inn to Ingram with some shoots off (out&back) to add more miles. There is a lot of dirts trails that are smooth single track and there are some rocky areas too. Level from beginner to intermidate rider.

Skaters and Cyclists Only!! Great Track

August, 2016 by cmrayaustin

I have been skating here 15 years. It is worth driving to this park from any area of town. There is more than enough parking! Most Cyclists and Skaters respect each other's space. Stay to the right at all times, especially if you are a new cyclist or skater (or are with your children and teaching them). When passing someone always let them know in advance you are passing by saying "ON YOUR LEFT". This is for courtesy and safety of everyone. There is a 'General Rules' sign out front that you should read before getting on the road. If you follow the rules and stay alert of all others out there, you will have a lot of fun. There is an occasional "Tour de France wanna be" cyclist (not often) who thinks the road belongs to them. Just stay to the right and you won't have to deal with them. Have fun, bring your camera, lots of water and enjoy your time there.
