Yesterday we took our first official ride on our newly purchased Velotric bikes! We rode a total of 32 miles from Abingdon, Va to Damascus, Va and back! The trail was very well maintained! We felt at ease the entire way with the trail conditions. There are many beautiful sites on this trail as you experience farmland, alpacas, cattle, river and streams, and mountain views! Such a beautiful ride! We met some awesome people along the way also! We discussed our bikes, the trail, other trails, etc! We also enjoyed some fabulous food and service! In Damascus, I highly recommend The Cottage Cafe! This is a quaint Irish Pub! The owners, staff, food and beverage are AWESOME! Same goes for 128 Pecan in Abingdon, where we enjoyed a WONDERFUL dinner!
Rented bikes locally in Damascus from Blue Blaze. The ride was beyond our expectations. Rolling countryside through farms was breathtaking. Will return once other half of trail has had repairs completed. Highly recommend!
Absolutely beautiful ride! Loved all the long wooden trestle bridges and the gorgeous views. Trail was in excellent condition. I’ve ridden many trails throughout the USA and this one is definitely top 10. The only bummer was that the other 20 miles of the trail are still closed due to damage from Hurricane Helene. As soon as that section is repaired I’m definitely coming back to ride from White Mountain to Damascus.
The Creeper Trail is still one of my favorite trails. I love riding it from the Abington end and from the Damascus trailhead. Both are absolutely beautiful and well worth the trip.
Rode the entire trail over two days April 2026. Exceptionally well maintained trail and beautiful scenery throughout. Trail was well packed and very easy to ride. Kudos to the staff who maintain the trail.
Hands down our favorite trail. We’ve hiked the entire trail (not all at once) and biked it end to end, and no section ever disappoints—no matter the season.
An added bonus is the park’s occasional van tours. Options include routes from Cliffview to Foster Falls and from Foster Falls to Pulaski. These guided tours offer wonderful insight into the area’s history and the former rail line.

We rode from Damascus to the end of the trail in Abingdon. The weather was sunny and mild, temps were in the high 60’s. Trail conditions were excellent. Traffic on the Creeper was brisk, even on Friday during the school year. This ride completed our previous ride from Damascus to White Top back in 2022. Maybe someday we will be able to ride the east end, a lot of work needs to be done to put the trail back together following Hurricane Helene. Be sure to visit the local stores in Damascus: Damascus Outfitters, Damascus Brewery, Appalachian Heritage Distillery, the Damascus Diner, Damascus Pizza, etc.
Arrived in Blacksburg on the 12th and hopped on the trail by the Public Library in Blacksburg. The weather was a little cool, overcast and was lightly raining for mist of the ride. Trail conditions were great (asphalt & concrete) with decent signage. I love me a good greenway as much as the next person, but I was not expecting the steep hills. Most were easily passible, a couple of them we pushed the bikes up them. We’ll be better prepared the next time. The views in and around Blacksburg are excellent. Recommend this trail to all to see. Eat your Wheaties before you ride!
Great ride! Challenge was avoiding the walnuts that fall this time of year! We saw several deer. 2 bounced down the trail right in front of us! The weather was beautiful and the trail was fabulous!
This is a very nice trail- the part you can ride as of 9-25-25. The bridge at the 3.5 mile mark is locked off so that is all we could ride from Glade Springs That was quite disappointing. The trail is almost all grass- it was nicely mowed. It had rained for two days prior to our riding so was a little muddy in places but did not detract from the ride. Highly recommend this trail!
For my birthday today we biked from Galax to Fries. It was my first real trailhead ride and I loved it. Beautiful scenery to enjoy while on the trail. So many real breath taking views to enjoy during your ride.
