The blue trail has opened an extension in May 2021 that can add an extra 2 miles to the trail. And if you don’t want to do an out and back on this paved extension, you can simply go down a paved path and pick the blue trail back up at a lower level.
The best place to go exercise and be you with nature
My husband and I rode the complete trail this week. It needs a lot of work. Washouts, large areas of large rocks, tree limbs to take your head off, large holes and ditches across the trail we’re very common. Trailhead bathroom closed. I hope the state or Feds can come up with some funds to repair this trail. I could not recommend this trail until improvements are made.
I’ve gone to this trail multiple times. I love that it has a walking lane separate from the bike lane. My only complaint is that it is hard to find parking since it is mostly in the city and surrounded by residential area.
We rode this trail from the state park and from Weatherford. It is in need of major repair. Major washouts, large rock washouts, tree limbs hanging over in the trail. Where I live when the trail is in bad shape the parks Dept places cones where there are dangerous holes and deep Washouts. If you go watch out and carry a spare tube! Hope it can be fixed soon.
This trail is beautiful!
More like a side walk on one side of the park, then small regular side walk.
Beautiful trails in the midst of plant and animal life.
This is a paved trail that is typically 2 lanes wide, narrowing to a single lane on bridges. As others have noted it can be noisy due to proximity to Love Field airport. My primary negative is that about half the trail runs adjacent to streets, which means inhaling the exhaust from the passing cars. How bad a problem this is will vary by the amount of traffic at any given time. Here on traillink.com the trail is described as 3.5 miles in length while at alltrails.com it is described as 3 miles (= 5k). I don't know who is closer to accurate. This trail has benches for resting along the route, and playgrounds for children.
Very noisy highways nearby. Lots of sun!
Since the gates were put in and surface upgraded there has been an increase in bike and hiking traffic. One group consisted of a Veteran and his sons and friends and I was able to provide them water for their canteens. They were going to camp along the trail and I began thinking that I could develop a camping spot next to the trail if there was interest. I am about halfway between Merit and Celeste, Texas. PLEASE PLEASE take your trash and any other you find as that's my biggest complaint. Most people are very considerate and I do appreciate it.
Parking along Shoreline is best if you are coming by to do a single 5k loop. The parking lot is usually crowded and has kids parties with music. There is a great hill around back so its not just a flat surface. Perfect loop trail to trail on.
