Brays Bayou Greenway Trail

Completely Under-constructio

July, 2020 by mallorytomlin97

This is an awesome trail when it is not under construction, and is well-deserving of five stars. I wish this app would let you know when a trail is not completely accessible, or in this case, completely unusable.

Brays Bayou Greenway Trail

Fun for the most part, but be aware of hazards

June, 2020 by mojo4

I have been all the way from the western terminus (Keegan's Bayou - Kirkwood at W. Belfort) to MacGregor Park. Most of it is fairly pleasant. However, construction at various points is problematic; as of late June 2020, you're looking at wonky intersections at Hillcroft (soon) and Stella Link, and many of the other ones are at angles relative to the trail so that you really have to contort to make the turns (recumbents, beware!) Outside the West Loop there is only one paved underpass (Gessner), the rest are your choice of unpaved dirt/mud or surface-level intersection. The West Loop/Braeswood intersection is a KNOWN DEATH TRAP, so utilize extreme caution here. There is construction east of 288 near Ardmore that is also problematic.

The biggest hazard, though, is west of Gessner. This area is populated by our transient neighbors, particular west of the Keegan's bridge. There is a fair amount of litter near the trail, and here and there are camp sites with tents and ...other things. The I-69 underpass is a No-Go zone if you are not in a group or riding pre-dawn/post-twilight. There is a large transient encampment there, it is not well-lit or near cross-streets, and they sometimes block the trail with debris (carts, lawn chairs, etc) This morning I was also chased by one of their dogs going through.

West of Wilcrest/Murphy the trail is unpaved for about a quarter-mile. There is no parking at the western end, unless you want to go park in the shopping center just south.

George Bush Park Hike and Bike Trail

lovely trail

June, 2020 by hpotter53

Well used trail. Lots of shade and beautiful scenery. I wish bikers would be more courteous, and call out when passing, i.e. on your right. And slow down when high traffic and pedestrians. It is not a race. ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿

Buffalo Bayou Trail

fine trial

This is a nice trial with downtown as a background. Usually pretty busy but nicely kept. Recommended

Buffalo Bayou Trail

Shaded path with ponds

June, 2020 by quinnpenny

Loved this bike trail. Took my dog in her stroller attached to my bike - happened upon the BEDT dog park ever! Sadie got to cool off in the swimming area. The variety of little parks with different sculptures was fun. Lost Lake was an oasis- with a place to eat outside with the pooch. It was challenging since all the water fountains and public restrooms were closed - so plan accordingly.

West White Oak Bayou Trail

great cycle path

May, 2020 by k.g.barratt

What a great cycle path, beautiful and clean, great views of Houston and a good distance instead of 5 milers. People friendly and the track is we’ll sign posted. Well worth the drive from Beaumont can’t wait to ride it again

Halls Bayou Greenway Trail

Nice Views But A Bit Isolated

March, 2020 by snp_tl

I agree with the first comment, this trail is 3 miles of only a few rest areas, minimal to none break exits, and is somewhat quite isolated not to have any law enforcement.

It is however, a good trail for this part of Houston and scenery, although, I would suggest having protection and/or a companion during any walk, runs, or bike rides if your going the distance.

Brays Bayou Greenway Trail

the worst

March, 2020 by eyad20051

This is by far one of the worst bike trails I’ve been on. There’s too much construction. The trail is not clearly defined and you have to make many streets turns to get onto other segments of the trail. Very fragmented and difficult to navigate. There’s no more than 1 mile of straight trail at a time and makes biking very difficult. There’s better trails in Houston¿

George Bush Park Hike and Bike Trail

East trail head still closed 2/1/20

February, 2020 by lizlevanriley

You can connect from the Terry Hershey trail but it is annoying not to have updated information on trailhead and parking status. What’s a good source? Great ride once you get to it, though!

Buffalo Bayou Trail

Scenic intown, fairly level, well traveled trail, for relaxed ride

January, 2020 by jkhiser

We rode on Jan 27, 2020, starting at Elenor Tinsley Park, riding clockwise to west end, back to east by UHD, then completing loop. Who knew Houston had a river ride nearly as scenic as in San Antonio.

Trail alternates between street and lower level, so there are gentle hills. Lots of maintenance underway, so appears the city takes it seriously.

Best bathrooms ever on a trail at Lost Lake.

But, you do have to pay attention to the map to put together a ride of the length you desire. Fairly well signed.

This is a slow scenic ride, not a workout ride, due to the number of pedestrians, dog walkers on one side with dog leash across the trail, etc., esp around dog park (which is prolly one of the best dog parks we have seen).

Buffalo Bayou Trail

great change of pace

December, 2019 by eugene.r.schwanbeck

Riding under the roads above with rolling hills is a stark contrast to trees and parks on Allen parkway. This trail has it all, always a fun ride as short or as long as needed. The pedestrian bridges are a nice touch too!
