Not to be confused with a similarly-named trail located just a few miles northwest in Rio Rancho, the Albuquerque Black Arroyo Trail follows a stretch of the concrete flood channel from the small local parks of Hunter's Run Park in the south to Salida del Sol Park in the north. Clocking in at just over a mile, the asphalt trail is mostly flat as it runs along the arroyo, although it ascends and descends to deal with road crossings along the way. The corridor makes for a nice place to escape from the suburban bustle of northern Albuquerque, providing a space for exercise and recreation for residents of the nearby neighborhoods.
Midway through, the trail intersects with the eastern end of the McMahon Boulevard Trail, which allows trail users to continue east to the popular malls and shops along the state highway, or head northwest for an additional three-plus miles of trail.
Parking is available at the south end of the trail at Hunter's Run Park, located on Chandler Drive off of 7 Bar Loop Road.
