Until the Trojan Trail was built, there weren’t that many safe or pleasant options for a jog in Hazel Green, Alabama. While the nearby big cities of Huntsville and Madison had their greenways, Hazel Green to the north didn’t really have a space dedicated to non-motorized uses. This why the 3-mile loop around Hazel Green High School means so much to residents here. The trail meanders around sports fields and around buildings. The trail is a community asset that promotes better physical and mental health, as well as facilitating social interaction particularly through trail events. Trail users can choose to run, walk, or walk dogs on the crushed stone path. Hopefully, the Trojan Trail will inspire the development of even more bike-ped facilities.
See the video on the official trail website for a bird's eye view of the trail.
Hazel Green High School is located at 14380 Hwy 231/431, Hazel Green, AL 35750. Park at the front of the school. The trail is open during daytime hours but during regular school hours, please be sure to use the designated parking areas.
Bring your pooch on a leash; remember to pickup after pup. It's HGHS property, but they are nice enough to keep it open to the community - people and pups.
It’s asphalt now not crushed stone. Great for runs after school or walks.
