Love the new part going from Andover towards Augusta. Not much traffics and nice chipped path. Like to run and bike on it.
Wish they would take care of the bike trail. The expansion strips are too large of a gap. My husbands spokes on his wheels broke off, because of how bumpy it is! He had to replace his wheels which are not cheap. And his bike was brand new!! I love the trail, I just wish they would fix the gaps, so we do not ruin our bikes. Will not ride, until they are fixed. We drive to Wichita to ride on the trails there.
This is a connector path which makes it nice to get in longer rides. To the east is the K96 bike path. On the other end is the Canal hike and bike path which travels under 135. The ride will take you into an area marked with gang graffiti. I would not ride this path in the evening alone. I think early morning would be the safest but your experiences may vary. I liked the beginning of the trail off Oliver to 27th. The trail was clean and well kept.
I really wanted to love this path but the street crossing, sidewalks and poor signage made it just ok. I thought I was lost when the path just ended without any signs - but that it the was it was designed. I like parts of the path but it was just not long enough and had too many street crossings to be good for distance cycling. You can meet up with other paths and get in 30-40 miles+ BUT that is a lot of street crossings. I think it is a much more suited for joggers and people only wanting to ride a few miles.
Great trail, it is now paved all the way to Woodlawn. East of Woodlawn it is gravel all the way to Andover. Its a great gravel-bike ride, I hope they keep it gravel and do not pave it all.
Love it! Clean, sitting areas, well keep, awesome trail!
You can go along way on this path. You can start pretty far south(I have started at the dog park at hydraulic and i135) and go all the way to Sedgwick county park. This might be several paths but most of it is Arkansas river path. Lots of path. Few stops.
Lots of stops on busy intersections. Many automobiles entering crosswalks.
Enjoyed the well maintained trail from Fairfield Inn to the Keeper of the Plains statue. After that the trail deteriorated - several dead birds on the trail and approximately 1 mile from the statue the trail was flooded!
I rode the entire trail this evening from Central Ave to N Oliver Ave and back. This trial is really great! Not too much elevation change since Kansas is flat, but there were a few spots that had some incline that made the legs burn a bit. The asphalt and concrete trail surface is in good shape. The only "bad" spot was a mile or so stretch just west of Cabelas outdoor store. The asphalt surface was a little uneven in a few spots but not bad at all. The places where you cross busy intersections have crosswalks and lights so that wasn't an issue. I rode in the evening after business hours so the parking lot entrances you cross on Cypress Dr and E 32nd weren't an issue. I'm guessing they might be earlier in the day. All in all a great trail!
