Frenchman's Bar Trail

NOT a great walking trail

August, 2020 by chuffine

The first portion of it, starting near Vancouver Lake, is pretty, although there is very little shade. However, once it gets to the end of the Isthmus, at Blurock Landing, it parallels the road. It's really no more than a more protected bike lane that is right beside 501. I walked for a while and then turned around, very disappointed. I'm surprised at the high ratings folks gave it. 5 stars, really? Also cell phone coverage is spotty (at least for my phone) so be aware. For bikers or skaters it may be fine, but NOT recommended for walkers unless you find walking beside a sometimes busy two lane road as your idea of being out in nature.

Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail

Cascade Locks to Stairs

June, 2020 by pcraze

This is a pleasant forested section, but it’s only about 2.5 miles one way from the parking in Cascade Locks to a very steep set of stairs that impedes access to the rest of the trail. If you had two people you could transport each bike up the stairs to continue the ride. I didn’t have anyone to help me and my bike is very heavy so I turned around. A note about parking: Park under the bridge in Cascade Locks, but don’t take the steep downhill road that leads you down to the railroad tracks. If you do turn around and go back to the parking lot. The trail start almost on the shoulder of the highway and then veers off into a peaceful wooded area

Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail

Mosier to Hood River Best Segment

June, 2020 by pcraze

The trail and parking was open as of June 1, 2020 during Phase 2 of the Covid-19 situation. We rented bikes at Discover Bicycles in Hood River to ride the Historic Hwy bike path. We had a bike rack with us and we were staying in Mosier so we road the section from Mosier to Hood River (5 miles one way). This is an outstanding ride! Riding from Mosier to Hood River The trail is either uphill or level. Enjoy a picnic lunch and restrooms (flush toilets) and water at the Hood River parking lot. Riding to Mosier the trail is mostly downhill or level. Currently this is the best section of the trail to ride.

Rock Creek Trail (OR)

great trail

Great with 3 kids all on bikes - one a tricycle

Crown Zellerbach Trail

Unimproved along sections, and some muddy spots. But gorgeous. Everything the Banks Vernonia LT used to be before it was paved and became a bicycle race track.

Banks-Vernonia State Trail

A great trail for walking or riding. Lots of families. Beautiful scenery. Watch out for high speed bike riders who fail to yield right of way to others.

Fanno Creek Greenway Trail

my favorite path in the near vicinity

April, 2020 by jenivq

I found this trail on this app, and since I did it has brought me so much joy! It’s relatively flat and the asphalt is quite smooth (with a few exceptions) so whether you want to bike, run, rollerblade, skateboard, or something else, this path should meet your needs. I go almost everyday and can’t foresee that habit changing until the cold weather sets in and gets prohibitive for rolling outdoor adventures.

Frenchman's Bar Trail

among my favorites

April, 2020 by jenivq

I love being able to start at one body of water and move to another. The asphalt is flat, smooth, and ideal for skateboarding or inline skating. I’ll be back over and over again. Not too many people on the gorgeous day that I was out here.
