Ahnapee State Park Trail

Getting too rough

July, 2018 by dolderman1224

I have frequently ridden from Harold Reckelberg park for the past 4-5 years to Algoma & Kewaunee. I love the rural settings and solitude, but this year's rides have been too rough to enjoy on our Treks (700c x 35). Horses make the ride like cobblestone! Not sure if we'll try again later this season. Otherwise, these are my favorite trails to ride.

Fun & Long Day on Trail - 07.14.18

July, 2018 by dangyang3631

I just completed a one-day, 97-mile bike ride on this trail, starting at the Howard, WI trail-head to Weston, WI, and through Wausau [to go home] for the added miles. The best conditions were in Brown County, with lots of shade and lots of trail users. Marathon County had good conditions too, but had much less shade over the trail [bring sunblock]. Shawano County conditions were...different. Prepare for a double-track fire road throughout almost all of Shawano County with the likelihood of muddy spots. If biking, a mountain bike is a must or bring a road bike with at least 38mm wide tires with tread [my personal recommendation]. Deer flies were very numerous throughout Shawano County. I have about two dozen deer fly bites across my hands and arms [bring bug spray]. Also, there were six areas on the trail with downed trees--two of which were very difficult to navigate around [I think all six areas were somewhere between mile marker 50-60--from Howard, WI]. Honestly, as tough a day as it was, it was a really fun and gorgeous trail to ride. I personally liked the variety in trail conditions. I highly recommend this trail for the prepared enthusiast.

Ahnapee State Park Trail

Sturgeon Bay to Kewaunee

July, 2018 by donsenzig

I rode the Ahnapee trail from S. Neenah Ave. & Wilson Rd. in Sturgeon Bay to Miller & Milwaukee Streets in Kewaunee. According to my computer the distance was 39.36 miles. Although there were thunderstorms the day before the trail was in excellent shape. Unsure of trail conditions I rode my mountain bike with 2 inch tires but would have had no trouble with a road bike with 25 mm tires. The trail apparently doesn't get much use. I only met six other riders, all before I reached Algoma. It's a very nice ride with terrain varying between woodland, wetlands, and farmland. However, bug spray is recommended. Carry water, facilities are limited. The Village Kitchen restaurant in Casco is recommended if hot food is desired along the trail; good food, friendly staff, excellent service, and homemade cherry pie that can't be beat.

Howard to Pulaski

June, 2018 by jmclincoln

We rode the 12 miles from Howard to Pulaski WI today on a very well maintained trail. It is crushed stone, so a bit slower than pavement. Some areas have been recently resurfaced with pea-sized gravel, so although a touch rougher than older sections, we were glad to see the attention and care that Brown County gives their trails. Only one small section was soft, just as we approached a street that we had to stop for anyway. This section of the trail has many tree canopies that provide shade during the sunny part of the day.

Fox River State Trail

Fabulous Ride

June, 2018 by jmclincoln

The Fox River Trail in Green Bay WI should be in the Rails-to-Trails Hall of Fame. It’s mostly pavement or cement the fist 11miles, with beautiful parks and gardens along the way. The northern half hugs the river, so cool breezes and intriguing vistas are part of the ride. Businesses along the way put out water for your dog. The south half, although a crushed stone surface just past mile marker 11, is worth the ride to Greenleaf for a scrumptious lunch.

Ahnapee State Park Trail

Algoma to Sturgeon Bay

June, 2018 by scottnei3

Many reviews mention that the trail is rough in spots and I would need to agree. But I rode it from Algoma to Sturgeon Bay and back (44 miles) on a full carbon Specialized hybrid with 700 x 30 cc tires and had a great time. Yes, the areas where the horses ride are a bit rough but not that bad. My frame has built in zerts to dampen the vibration. Keep in mind the north end of the trail ends in the south side of Sturgeon Bay in an industrial park. From there you can ride into and around town, check out the bridges, boats, parks, and many good eateries. IMO doing this on a mountain bike would be exhausting, but this is definitely not a road bike trail. Gravel - CX - recommended.

Copper Culture Trail

Bicycles are banned.

June, 2018 by kdoemel

Wife and I live in Oconto, currently. You used to be able to bike in Copper Culture park but they put up "no bicycles" sign, so bicycles are not allowed there anymore.
So now there is mainly Pecor Street which is bicycle and walking specific and the rest is streets.
Don't know why bicycles are banned... We never heard of complaints. Trails were not ripped up.

Garbage pickup

I LOVE the ERT! It is nice to have an urban trail that is surrounded by nature.
For the first time I have a concern about it- the waste recepticles have been overflowing since Memorial Day weekend!

Felch Grade Trail

Rutted & Mud, Stumps showing through and Rocks Felch Grade

May, 2018 by garylantagne

Starting at Tesch its a Crushed Limestone Trail In Good Condition. Then heading West for approx. 1 Mile just past the Village of Schaffer the Gravel ends and the Dust and Ruts begin. The rest is Tore Up Cinders, Terribly Rutted and Mud Holes, some over a foot deep. Very little Law Enforcement seen so Be Careful out there.
For a State Department of Natural Resources Trail its Pathetic. Dead Trees hanging over the trail also.
Don't get me wrong in Jan. Feb. and maybe into March its Groomed on a Regular Basis but the Other 9 Months Very Poor Riding Conditions.

East River Trail

A great place to ride.

I ride this trail sometimes several days a week. It is really nice on weekdays. Its can busy at certain times but never too crowded. Watch your speed on blind corners as other riders and walkers/runners may come up quick.

Weston Trailhead - 10.4.2017

October, 2017 by kathleen.esqueda

Walked 2 miles in from the Weston trailhead. Trail in excellent shape. This section of the trail runs parallel to a very busy, noisy road on one side and the backyards of homes on the other. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful walk in the woods this is not it. If you don’t mind the noise and walking closely past houses and businesses it might work for you. Giving at least two stars for the great trail condition; however, this section of the trail was not what I personally had hoped it would be.
