Red Cedar State Trail

Beauty along the Red Cedar river.

July, 2021 by mikebob_tl

One of my fav trails!!! Follows the river, through a wildlife area, ends at a cool bridge with a connection to the Chippewa river trail. Total lack of human noise for most of this trail!!!!! It is in great shape Friday.

Old Abe State Trail

Excellent condition outside of town

July, 2021 by tedgrossardt

We rode the section of the trail from the north side of Chippewa Falls up to Cornell. It's a pleasant, tree-lined ride with ample wildflowers to stop and admire this time of year, including one site with Michigan Lillies. Does with fawns are out in the mornings before it gets too warm. The trail follows Wissota Lake and Old Abe Lake on the way north, so some nice water scenery, and an old abandoned steel truss road bridge borders the trail, but is closed even to bicyclists. A similar bridge on the Great Miami Trail north of Dayton has been painted blue and opened to access by cyclists and the general public. With multi-colored art adorning it, it has earned the moniker "Peace Bridge." Just a thought...
The trail in the north sections of Chippewa Falls appears to have been poured in sections with joints in between that are quite rough, despite being filled periodically with tar. Once out in the country, the 'joint design' goes away the the trail is smooth as glass. Racing back to beat a thunderstorm, we were able to peddle as fast as we wanted without worrying about road hazards.
The town of Cornell is a good destination: food choices plus a park with restrooms and water and the giant leaning tower of pulp wood stacking. Quite remarkable to see it looming before you as you come up the trail! A good day can be had on this trail.

Vermillion River Regional Greenway

Poorly marked and in rough shape

July, 2021 by peter182

This trail seems to be a patchwork of different park and city trails that were stitched together to make a loop around the city of Hastings. Consequently it's very difficult to stay on the trail. I don't have a handlebar holder for my phone, so had to keep stopping to check my phone and find which way to go. There were many instances when the trail suddenly crossed the road or reached a fork with no indication of which path to take to stay on the loop.

Additionally, at many points along the path the asphalt is in poor shape with large cracks and weeds coming up. Trees and brush along the trail haven't been trimmed so you'll need to beware low hanging branches. The sections that go through the residential areas cross many roads where you'll need to yield to traffic.

On the plus side, there are some interesting sites along the way, including a lock and dam, a beautiful city park along the Mississippi and a path running along a steep river gorge.

Better trail markers would have increased my rating to 3 or 4 stars.

Cannon Valley Trail

great trail

July, 2021 by jmclincoln

We enjoyed our ride on the Cannon Valley Trail. Small fissures are clearly marked and are to be expected since maintenance depends on volunteers. Only wish underbrush could be cleared where the trail wends close to the river for better river views. We road round trip from Cannon Falls to Red Wing.

Stower Seven Lakes State Trail

Great ride

July, 2021 by lkoerit01

This is a nice trail in good shape. Nice rest stops along the way. Lots of deer too!

Old Abe State Trail

great trail!

July, 2021 by mikebob_tl

Rode from Burnett Island to Chippewa Falls and back. Very smooth trail. There is a downed tree around 190th. I just went to the road for a couple blocks. Spotted alot of wildlife. I liked the trail north of Jim Falls the best.

Old Abe State Trail

Red Cedar State Trail

Still a nice trail

July, 2021 by lkoerit01

It’s been 3 years since we had ridden this trail. It’s still a nice trail. Recent rains left a few spots washed out but repairs are in progress. There were very few other people on the trail for a Saturday morning. We did encounter deer on the trail.

Cannon Valley Trail

Great day in Iowa

June, 2021 by morganst2

We stayed in Cedar Rapids on our way to Minnesota and had heard about the Cannon Valley Trail. We weren’t sure where to start and the condition of the trail so thought We’d leave a review. We started at Cedar Lake and headed south rewards Ely. In hind-site it would have been better to start at the Czech village where there is plenty of parking. It’s confusing to ride through town. The path to Ely was great and we had heard that the path to Solon was not good, but it has been recently redone and is in great shape. We road 18 miles out and back for 36 total. Very enjoyable ride. Also quite a few restaurants and brewpubs at Czech village(we stopped at Lion Brewery) and would give it a thumbs up too. If your going north you could probably park at Cedar Lake and go north but we didn’t complete that part. Will try that next time. It was a great find and enjoyed it all

Willard Munger State Trail (Gateway State Trail)

Citified start

May, 2021 by tomeggum

The southern section between Cayuga St. and Arlington Ave. in St. Paul, starts with a view of the Trout Brook Nature Preserve (with a fine trail that does not connect at the north end) but quickly becomes sandwiched between junkyards and I-35E. Good it's there. Very urban.

Cannon Valley Trail

Nature Lover’s Dream

May, 2021 by katyfish97

I love this trail! Sure, it’s not perfectly paved, but I understand it must have been difficult to perform upkeep given the pandemic. Watch out for bumps and cracks and you’ll be alright! There are many gorgeous views and the trees lining the trail are beautiful.
