Nice and peaceful. Super close to my house too!

Omaha Trail

Beautiful ride

October, 2021 by dawn.zieher

Trail was asphalt and gravel. Others are right the asphalt not maintained but still very rideable! I guess I didn’t expect a paved highway so it didn’t disappoint. The canopy of trees made for a great fall ride. Tunnel was added bonus! Went from Camp Douglas to Elroy. You must bike the main streets of Elroy. Very cool downtown. Nice park/rest area in Elroy. The parking area in Camp Douglas was a little hard to find and limited parking but did the trick.

Great River State Trail

Perfect Day

September, 2021 by xpxmcqhjyv

We parked at the trail lot on Rte 35 In Trempealeau, then rode north to the end (about 10 miles). Trail is ok and some nice scenery, but pretty average overall. We then turned south and rode back the 10 miles, then continued on about 15-20 miles past our parking spot. Wow, this is the way to go. No roads to cross for miles and miles; just gorgeous scenery all around. Riding thru estuaries with bald Eagles and other wildlife. Wonderful lookout points from maybe 12-15 short and tall bridges. Just a very nice, level and smooth trail. We ended our day at the Historic Trempealeau Hotel and Restaurant. Wow, sunset over the Mississippi River, great food and a live band playing outside. Just a perfect day

Harmony-Preston Valley State Trail

9/10/2021 Preston to near Harmony

September, 2021 by skiwicket

Great evening ride after 7 hours in the car. Riding a Trek Domane w/ 33x700 tires, Susan riding Trek Checkpoint. Yes the trail could use a little work, especially the bridge approaches. Still felt smoother than portions of I-90. The curves and short hills were a delight. We ride in the mountains of eastern Washington where our typical ride involves 2500-3000 vertical feet of climbing, so not really hills.

Elroy-Sparta State Trail

Elroy to Kendall

September, 2021 by mikebob_tl

Rode from Elroy trailhead towards Kendall and discovered it’s closed at about 3-4 miles. Looks like a bridge out. Heavy equipment blocks the trail. Drove to Kendall and the rest of the trail was wonderful!

400 State Trail

This is our new favorite

August, 2021 by emmettbrown

We did an 10.5 mile stretch from Elroy, WI to about 3 miles south of Wonewoc. Round trip 21 miles. We intended to do 30 miles but we're getting older and the air quality was terrible due to fires in Canada. That said this is a beautiful trail, very scenic, smooth, and a pretty flat easy ride. At a few of the road crossings the ends of the trail were filled in with sand instead of gravel, so watch out so you don't lose control. We chose the 400 due to having lots of stops with bathrooms. We were not disappointed. All of the facilities are clean and well maintained. Most of the small towns along the way have food and beer available, and the local folks are very welcoming and proud of their association with the trail. This has become our favorite WI trail. We hope to get back out there next year and finish the trail.

La Crosse River State Trail

Great Experience!

August, 2021 by 7s5a692x35

A group of us were in Wisconsin for the Ride Across Wisconsin (RAW) and this trail paralleled a portion of the days route from La Crosse to Sparta. Two of us were on gravel bikes so we experienced some of this trail. The trail was well maintained with two small locations that were rough due to heavy rains in the past. It is more of hard packed clay trail versus crushed limestone. It has a nice tree canopy for the portion we rode but if there was rain before your ride, there are sections that could be muddy.

Trout Run Trail

Challenging but extremely beautiful

July, 2021 by schr0841

I learned about this trail around 5 years ago - me and a friend brought our bikes to Decorah with plans to do this and then visit Toppling Goliath afterward. We were blown away by the hilly nature of this trail, but it is incredibly beautiful as well. I've been back multiple times (most recently today, did the loop twice) and noticed large birds, smaller critters, deer running along the trail, and then a huge variety of flowers and other grassland/riverbed wildlife and plants. I am from Minnesota, and most of the trails I've ever been on in the state are more or less flat. This one is very hilly with some switchbacks for 6 miles, and then more or less flat for 5. It is an incredible trail - you need to be in fairly decent shape but it's worth. My favorite biking trail, and I don't see anything ever beating it (unless I take my bike out west or something).

History at its best tunnels and all!

July, 2021 by j.mac_tl

Been coming here since 1974. It’s nice to see that the trail is still open and being somewhat well taken care of! The best campground to stay at is Tunnel trail campground! So if your staying please contact Julie and Scott for continuing the legacy of their father and mothers hard work and dedication to making the campground and the trail experience so amazing! John Mc
