Squires Road Trail

Hills...but it's Kentucky

March, 2024 by luv_mlb25

I ran this trail in March 2024. The review that has been submitted stated that the trail was short and flat. It is short, but it is not flat. The trail legend shows it's split in to three legs, but a person could absolutely do the whole stretch without any issue. There is little to no traffic and even though you do cross a couple of roads, the cars were kind enough to let me run through. There is a slow steep hill through Berry Park and then the rest of the path runs behind a neighborhood of houses. I parked in the "middle" of the three trails at the above-mentioned park and ran southwest first and this was a steady up and down path. It looks as though it has just been repaired as there were still signs of freshly planted grass and straw along the path. However, sadly, there are sinking holes already in the path and even a huge crater in part of it. I then did a loop, returning to the park and then up the northeastern part of the trail. This runs through a cul-de-sac and is an easy road run until the trail picks up again just cross Alumni Drive. The northern part of the trail is mostly shaded and wide with a nice creek running through. I felt safe and the trail seemed to be clear of trash. Not sure I would run this again if I were to return to the area just based on the hills alone. I was just in the area for an overnight stay and needed to fit in a quick 5K before a long car ride home.

Brighton East Rail Trail

I haven't ridden my bike in 4 years! I looked like I had never been on a bike in my life. ¿ It is a great trail, no dogs chasing you and lots of houses in case you have a heart attack! Seriously, I give it ¿¿¿¿¿

Squires Road Trail

Paved multiuser trail is short & flat. While not a destination trail, it is nicely shaded and worth a look if you are in the area.

Cathy Crockett Memorial Trail

Nice area but needs some maintenance and improvements.

December, 2018 by shaneollice

The parking area was very hard to find! Because there is no sign by hwy. 27 informing you where the parking area for the Rails to Trails Cathy Crockett Memorial Trail or the trailhead is located. If you're looking for it, it's just south of Dixie Bend Rd. on the west side of hwy. 27. After looking at Google maps and finally locating it, it was a enjoyable walk with my mom and her 2 dogs. There was signs designating the trailhead. The first section of the trail was nicely maintained. But after we reached the gravel road there was no signs informing us that the trail is the gravel road until the gravel road makes a left curve, then the trail leaves the gravel road continues straight ahead. Once the trail leaves the gravel road at this point it hasn't been maintained much if any at all. We had to maneuver around briars and step over logs that was across the trail. We walked the trail until we reached the concrete abutment of the old tressel that used to span across Minton Hollow in Sloans Valley. This trail definitely needs some maintenance and signs placed to better inform people about the trail and ect.

This trail appears to be a good resource for the community. It provides (1) a safe place for children to ride their bikes separated from automobile traffic, (2) a place for those in the neighborhood to walk their dogs, and (3) a place for a leisurely stroll. It's too short for adult cycling or serious runners. If I lived in the neighborhood, I might use it often, but it is not something that anyone would travel a great distance to use. There is no public parking or trailhead. There are no magnificent views, unless you enjoy looking at power lines.

Brighton East Rail Trail

Good for walks or short runs

This is a clean, well maintained and safe trail. There is a lot of shade to keep cool. It's very frequented, but not crowded. I can't wait until they extend it further.

Brighton East Rail Trail

Beautiful trail, Too short

May, 2015 by crimefighter560

This is a beautiful, well-maintained trail. The total length is approximately 2 miles so it is a little bit short for serious cycling. It is excellent for the not so serious cyclists and children. There is lots of tree cover, which provides a cool place to walk or ride on hot sunny day. The trail is often crowded with people walking, running, biking and even using non-motorized scooters. Most everyone is aware of the various trail users travelling at different speeds and are respectful and friendly. Excellent place for locals to get a little exercise.
