Pleasant Fall Ride

October, 2018 by jacmar1

Road this trail from Iola to Humboldt on a fall afternoon in 2018.Very well kept and actually met the individual who takes great pride in keeping up the trail. There are still many railroad features along the trail and the crushed surface is well maintained. Both Iola and Humboldt have several new restaurants and accommodations being renovated which makes staying in the area quite enjoyable

Active Cyclist for 45 years - completed rides in 40 States

October, 2018 by bike150wi

We used the trail as Bikers. Trail appears to have been built in the 70's. While there are some newer sections - most is very narrow with many cracks and pavement buckles. Don't take a road bike. Need a gravel bike or mountain bike to help with the constant jarring. Many intersections thought out poorly. Bridge crossing outside of large park strange at best - its a two way stretch over the bridge that's barely wide enough for one bike let alone two going opposite directions. You have the bridge wall and these cement partitions so I guess creativity would be required when two bikers are crossing in opposite directions. There are also a few unusually steep grades for a trail which I like but I question if the trail is wide enough for cyclists to pass each other going the opposite directions. An accident waiting to happen.

We may have just been lucky the day we rode it but we came across the rudest group of runners we ever came across on a trail. (45 years of cycling) We are always polite on a trail - we announce our presence and also ring a bell softly letting them know we will be passing them on the left. They refused to let us pass. Was able to find road option to jump ahead of them.

If you are looking for a paved trail to ride I would head out to Lawrence.

Great Suburban Trail

September, 2018 by lynns_tl

I rode this trail at the end of September 2018 for the first time in years. The section I rode - between Barker Rd & 87th - was in good shape, the people I encountered were friendly and there are several scenic creek crossings.

If you're in the area and have time, definitely check out this trail!

Tomahawk Creek Trail

look out

September, 2018 by hanachristy

This is such a beautiful trail. Look out for the "tour de france" trainers. There is no yielding to pedestrians, those pushing strollers, walking toddlers. This is a strictly fast bicycle trail. It has been so for a few years. I recommend separate hours for bicycles and for pedestrians before there is an accident.

Flint Hills Trail State Park

Council Grove to Bushong

July, 2018 by yoder.kauffman

Rode on an unseasonably cool and overcast July day. Trail is in excellent condition. We rode our street bikes. This section is doable for the casual rider and for families. Take water, there are no services. Beautiful ride through the flint hills. Bushong is the high point in this section.

Nice ride

June, 2018 by fdowell

Rode this trail from Iola to Humbolt and back, and then stumble on the single track trail outside of Iola. That was really nice too! We camped in Humbolt and that was disappointing with the noise from a local plant and the bathrooms were quite dirty.

Riverfront Heritage Trail

Awesome

May, 2018 by lamborghiniman75

Spent way too long to give this trail a go. Good access from i35. Really a safe looking area at least during the day. Since go there I have gone there weekly to either Skate or jog. I haven't made it up the stairs and over the bridge as of yet though. Only Complaint, they need to add on! Take it past Isle of Capri on the other side of i35, looks easy to do.

Flint Hills Trail State Park

Ottawa to Vassar and back.

April, 2018 by jwise2

Great ride on a super nice spring day. The trails were in very good condition. The only problem that we encountered was the 2 mile (2.5 mile?) detour that is west of Ottawa. It is on gravel roads, which is no problem for gravel riders. There are also a lot of dogs, most are of no consequence... but be on the lookout for an Ill-tempered pit bull on the west end of the detour. The owner was there and able to contain him so we could pass. This is the only reason I couldn’t give our experience 5 stars. Next

Great trail

April, 2018 by orlysud

Love it but wish it was a dirt trail like before and could be extended as it’s short. Just the same, once can always go to the Wetlands from there.

Burroughs Creek Trail and Linear Park

Great if you want to get away from cars

April, 2018 by orlysud

Paved, clean, fairly shady and easy to ride. Only problem is that one has to stop at every block due to traffic going west to East or visa-versa. Also, it’s way too short and wish the City of Lawrence would invest some of their money on extending the trail to go West to Clinton Lake. We need more dedicated trails for bikes in Lawrence without traffic.

Lawrence Levee Trail

Love this trail. I highly recommend this trail everyone including children as it’s a fairly easy trail. Children should always be escorted by a parent or their parents. I saw a 5 year old girl with her father in the trails once and was amazed how well she rode.

Great weekend activity

March, 2018 by deannepe

This is a nice trail for a longer ride between communities in Johnson County with spurs to destinations like Shawnee Mission Park, Mid-America Sports Complex, and the growing Lenexa City Center. There are a few steeper grades, but overall a good ride with family and friends.
