Derry Rail Trail

A Little Bit of Everything

May, 2020 by nhsteeler

Your best bet is to park your vehicle at Hood Park and then you follow a street portion and cross the main road. The Depot is right in front of you, and the trail is pretty easy to follow. The ride out toward Windham is slightly uphill so the trip back seemed easier. This trail connects directly into the Windham Trail through a paved connector. I would have rated it five stars but there are quite a few street crossings and people tend to drive faster through there so be alert.

Clipper City Rail Trail & Harborwalk

great example of what a rail-trail can be

May, 2020 by treborcd

This is one of my favorite trails in Massachusetts. It’s well paved, not monotonous and it functions well connecting different parts of Newburyport. Biggest disappoint is how short it is. If you’re looking for an enjoyable weekend ride with lunch or a coffee break thrown in this trail can’t be beat.

Methuen Rail Trail

great trail but

May, 2020 by rascal2233

awesome trail to work and train my dogs, only suggestion I have is trash barrels. There's only 1 in the middle. Should really have a handful or so spread out which would help keep it clean.

Boscawen to Highland Lake

May, 2020 by kevin.keohan

Rode north from Boscawen to Highland Lake about 15 miles. Trail is in excellent shape. Very slight grade riding north such that you can hardly notice it. Ride south was faster as it was essentially downhill. Great day

Cotton Valley Rail-Trail

unsafe for bikes

May, 2020 by dierdre

Beautiful trail but very narrow making it very hard for bikes going in opposite directions to pass each other. Other negative are the railroad ties that you need to bike over in some places. Please be careful!

Londonderry Rail Trail

Easy and Peaceful

May, 2020 by nhsteeler

This is one of my family’s favorites as it was the first rail trial we ever did. The trail is all paved, pretty much flat throughout, and easily accessed. Apparently they are planning to add an additional few miles on the northern end by 2022. The only drawbacks are that it can get crowded, it can be buggy (it is near a lot of wetland), and of you like challenging trails it isn’t the best choice for you. Overall we love it

Piscataquog Trail

Great Ride but Has a Few Small Drawbacks

May, 2020 by nhsteeler

We went on this trail for the first time today and really enjoyed it! The ride is all asphalt, and not overly challenging. Some great views also of the Piscataqoug and Merrimack Rivers. It also can be used to connect to the Heritage Trail which is .9 miles. So if you do this one and that one together it is a full three miles each way. Best spot to park in behind the West Side Arena near the baseball field as it has a easier access to the trail. There are a few things to watch for. The street crossings can be a little tricky so be careful. Also there is not a ton of shade either so keep that in mind too.

Eastern Trail

Between Saco & Bug Light Park is best

September, 2019 by christine13

We did this in two parts: Kennebunk-Biddeford, and South Portland-Saco. To do just Kennebunk to Biddeford & back is a bit too easy and dull - straight, flat, 12 miles round trip; although, you might want to reserve time to explore downtown Biddeford. Biscuits! Doughnuts! Brewery! Etc.

The Portland-Saco stretch is more varied. If you start from Bug Light Park, like we did, I think it comes out to more than 20 miles; for a shorter ride, start from the parking lot on the trail proper. There is the most excellent empanada place in Saco where you should try to have lunch. The marsh is fun with interesting birds.

Piscataquog Trail

trail markers

September, 2019 by janrogthebees

The only thing missing on this beautiful trail are markers. The Goffstown trail has markers starting at 0 mile on 1 side and on the other side it indicates 5.5 MI to the end, and then a marker every .5 mile EX: .5 MI, 1 MI., 1.5 MI. 2 MI. 2.5 MI. etc all the way to the end at 5.5 MI.
