Bicentennial Greenway

Not Road Bike Usable

May, 2020 by tloganenterprises

I started at Penny Road heading north. Within a mile I encountered multiple tree roots bulging the pavement upward. I almost think the responsible maintenance department is clueless on how to build and maintain a trail. If you build an asphalt trail (cheaper than concrete) through a forest, tree roots will destroy the asphalt in short order by heaving the asphalt upwards. You either need to make a well built concrete trail or block roots from creeping under the asphalt. Neither was done on this trail. I finally turned around when it became too dangerous to continue as the pavement was getting worse. I don't think I would even jog on this trail with the surface as uneven as it is. The situation is even worse on a sunny day when hundreds of branches/leaves cast shadows all over the trail - obscuring your view of how bad the trail is.

Albemarle has more than this

April, 2020 by moonshot61

The trail is ok but as another reviewer mentioned it's nothing to get excited about, particularly for cyclists. However, I chose to move to Albemarle partly for the many miles of sidewalks. You can walk or run for miles here if you want and never cross the same route. The city is finally recognizing this asset and marking various routes for newcomers. Come see us!

Hillsdale Greenway

not so great

April, 2020 by najones0511

I should have gone earlier in the day as it was getting dark.. but not an ideal path. Some broken glass, some sketch vehicles idling, you're not enclosed by greenery but usually next to a neighbohood street. No significant hills and it is a wide path, like at least 5' wide.
Had to go around some truck parked on the path where some kids were scooping up sand for their own use...
Maybe its fabulous in the early morning?!

8th Street Greenway

A nice connector!

This .5 mile stretch is part of an entire 2 mile “loop”. This piece it’s self is awesome, but connecting this trail to Bakers Creek Greenway requires walking along a high traffic road.

Bakers Creek Greenway

A new favorite!

I love this trail! I’ll definitely be frequenting it more often. Perfect for kids! It connects through 3 other trails & takes you through multiple parks.

Bethabara Greenway

From Bethabara Park to Eastern End

Parking at the visitor center you walk down the hill through the field cross a foot bridge to reach the trail. Turning left the trail is paved and leveluntil you reach Old Town Rd. There the trail gets very much more strenuous. With a lot of hills which includes several steep stairs in the woods where most of the trail is dirt. You go through a lit tunnel under Silas Pkwy. The trail ends about 1/4 mile further at a locked private gate.

Salem Lake Trail

Beautiful trail right along water’s edge

June, 2019 by stanl2

90% shaded. 10-20 feet wide. Beautiful trail right along the water’s edge for most of the trail. 7+ miles , mostly flat, some hills. A couple of bathrooms, a couple of water fountains. Pedestrian dog and kid friendly. Lots of education signs along the way, that tell you about water , how to navigate downed trees, but also tell you how to bike up/down the hills safely. Recommend reading the bike instructions to small children. I think some of the short hills might be dangerous for them. Sand. Gravel. There were drain pipes under some parts of the trail to help prevent washouts , but I did ride over about a half-dozen small gulleys of washout. 6-to-12 inch gaps where you feel the bump bump. I rode on a beautiful day, but I suspect I would not have enjoyed the ride after a large rainfall. Lots of other things to do: playground, side trails to greenways, boat launching, and boat / kayak rentals (?), and fishing. Also, there was a zagster bike share option with a dozen bikes.

Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway

Good for some miles

May, 2019 by timmy0728

I've ran this trail several times while in the area. Dont know why I haven't written a review. 4.5 is a more fair rating. This is a very nice, paved and rather shaded trail. The lake and wildlife give some beautiful scenery while running or biking.
A couple small hills give an occasional challenge.
So as I always say, if in the area and want to get a couple miles in, head here. You'll enjoy your time.

Long Branch Trail (NC)

not bad

May, 2019 by hartmp

It is a nice trail but the way it cross research parkway is dangerous in my opinion. It is after a turn and vehicles can’t see you crossing. Sometimes it is easier to ride on the road .

Winston-Salem Strollway

Could be great

May, 2019 by hartmp

It could be a great way to move around downtown but the surface of the trail is broken and rough. For biking it is smoother to roll on the road that runs parallel to the road. I think if you were walking on it you would have to look down to make sure you don't trip over the broken surface.
