BWI Trail

Great trail that's well maintained, just a few small wooden bridges that add bumps. There's enough elevation to get a nice workout. Not very wide and it's two way traffic so be on the lookout for other bikers and walkers.

Rock Creek Trail (MD)

great trail

This trail is challenging but not too challenging. There is a bit of wildlife, and there are a lot of playgrounds along the way (at least in the first five miles). The only bad part is that there are two dark underpasses, one of which is shared with cars.

Gwynns Falls Trail

Disappointed!!

June, 2021 by kcruse.cruse

Trail isn’t maintained AT ALL. Detours not clear and many trees down along trail. There’s a tree and power line down between W Baltimore and Frederick on Ellicott Driveway. Don’t bother with this trail until the city takes responsibility for this mess. Stop making it seem like the trail is great when it’s not. Debris, broken tree limbs, and trash galore on this trail. Could be a wonderful trail for all if it was maintained regularly. Better off riding on the road. Baltimore City, please do better.

Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park

awesome trail with history

We just did the entire trail from Cumberland to DC and it was awesome. Lots of cool tunnels and good bike riding when dry. We had one wet day and trail got pretty muddy near Cumberland. Interesting history along the way. This is a must do bike trail.

Red Lion Mile

Improved

June, 2021 by river4dreams

Although just a mile, Red Lion Borough has extended the trail for it’s full ‘Red Lion Mile’ ! Starts as hard pack finely gravelled surface, which turns into new pavement. Near the end is a small section of paved switchback to negotiate a slope, ending near Springwood Rd and a stone cave. Mostly wooded, although the switchback is open with no trees, it’s a nice dog walking, scooter riding path for post-Easter dinner stroll this year - 2021 post pandemic. ¿¿

Michael Castle Trail

Beautiful!

June, 2021 by jdrussell11

Great setting on a well maintained trail. Scenery included the canal, numerous bridges, birds and boats. GRAIN has a bar/restaurant right next to the water about halfway and the trail is bookended by Schaeffer’s Canal house to the west and Crabby Dicks to the east. Mostly flat with a few short elevation changes, including the switchbacks at the marina. Also has numerous lots for entry along the way.

Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park (W&OD)

Nice way to see Northern Virginia.

We biked the trail from Asburn to Purcellville and found it to be a very enjoyable ride. We went on Memorial Day and it was great. The asphalt trail itself was in nice shape the entire trip and mileage markers every half mile. Elevation changes are minimal and easy for anyone to manage. Having Leesburg in the middle of our ride was great for foot and snacks both coming and going. Plenty of options. We will ride this trail again!

Downs Park Trail

Relaxed, family oriented experience

May, 2021 by danadominguez75

A wonderful ride if you’re looking for a casual, relaxed experience. Pulled my three year old in a trailer and he loved it. Smooth riding experience. The beach and playground make this a great destination for kids. Definitely going to return. Bring a map because the loop isn’t well marked.

Michael Castle Trail

Smooth and Safe

Nice ride, smooth pavement and safe area, just a few road crossings so goes fast. Parking areas have restrooms but no water. At west end in Maryland Schaefers has good sea food and beer.

Baltimore and Annapolis Trail

Excellent Trail!

May, 2021 by laskie

Rode the trail from Annapolis to BWI and back with my husband and our two kiddos (one in a bike seat, one on a tag-along) last weekend. It was such a great experience! The trail offers very nice views of the backyards and little towns, lots of trees, not a lot of busy roads to cross and those couple have cross walks with lights. The trail is well paved and maintained, there are some joggers and many cyclists but overall it didn't seem busy. There is a cool section with something called "Planet walk" where the planets are spaced proportionately to how they are in the solar system, we really enjoyed looking out for the planets on the way! There are a few places to stop and get food but no public bathrooms till you get to BWI where there were a couple of port-o-potties. We used the bathrooms in Severna but then felt obligated to buy the frozen yogurt.
