First 4m is Pretty but that’s it

October, 2021 by enlehman76

We are visitors in Asheville and have been trying out different Greenway bike trails over the past week and decided to drive to TN to try this one. The crushed gravel is very fine so isn’t too difficult to ride on with a road bike. The first 4 miles are pretty but after that it runs parallel to a very busy street full of truckers and much traffic and goes by strip malls, many street crossings, etc.. We turned around about 3/4 way into the ride as the street was so unpleasant to ride next to. Was nice to experience it but wouldn’t make the drive to go back. The Thermal Belt Trail in NC was nicer than this for a longer Greenway that’s more scenic. We met some locals there who said there’s a really pretty paved greenway in Kingston TN but we didn’t get a chance to try that one out.

Riverwalk Greenway (Pigeon Forge)

no bike riding today

October, 2021 by eggznham

Started from patriot park, crossed street to start trail through a neighborhood, rode .5 of a mile and unable to continue due to closed crossing and construction for water pipes. Hopefully will open soon but we will not be here.

Fall Ride

September, 2021 by kerr37938

Trail surface is mostly ground gravel of cinder consistency . Larger gravel on the trail is near the visitor center and some of the road crossings . The section west of the Gibson Station parking lot is no longer maintained. I used my road bike with no issues except for slippage in a couple loose cinder , sandy areas. Overall this is a lovely trail with little traffic. Saw 10 or so hikers and no bikers, on a Saturday. I have been riding this trail for many years. There is lots of new activities to do in the park by the visitor center and new walking trails open . You could easily spend a day with the kids here .

French Broad River Greenway

It is what it is

September, 2021 by ruanecate

I use the bike trails in West Asheville several times a week, as they are relatively flat and run along the river. But the connections between stretches of trail can be dangerous. For example, if I want to ride from the new RAD trail toward Carrier Park, I must do so along a stretch of Amboy with no trail, nor even a road shoulder. (The only other option is to go under the bridge through French Broad Park, which is often muddy.) And if I want to continue in the RAD to Craven Street parking, I must cross the road where the trail suddenly is one way instead of side-by-side two way. Except for the stretch through RAD, a cyclist must contend with dog walkers and toddlers on tricycles. Bottom line: wear a helmet!

There are too many bikes and today I encountered a couple on motor scooters. Signs say motorized vehicles are prohibited but there is no enforcement.

Really Pleasant Trail

June, 2021 by ldiernisse

Great little trail. In excellent condition and with beautiful scenery. Very easy parking and there is a store across the street. It's a bit short but if you go one way and back that's eight miles and it's pleasant enough you could even turn it into 16 miles without getting bored.

Mendota Trail

A little rough

May, 2021 by fannakate

A little on the rough side due to the larger gravel chunks, as well as pretty hilly! Not the smoothest ride but decent!
