Fantastic ride in Nashville - great for all levels

September, 2020 by wduffee

This greenway is a lovely set of loops and straights, with the bonus of the Cornelia Fort Airpark!

Lots of access points so you can have your pick of riding distance and scenery.

As with many Greenways in the area, it can be very crowded so please be polite and give space to those on foot, calling out ahead of time when you are on your bike!

Stones River Greenway

Favorite ride in Nashville

September, 2020 by wduffee

Starting off from the dam and going to the Cumberland River Pedestrian Bridge is a very pleasant ride. Makes for a great out and back!

Mostly shaded with some beautiful bridges, fields and open spaces. The climb between the Waterworks and McGavock is challenging for new riders but rewarding. Lots of segments to split up the ride if you are limited on time.

Water and restrooms working and plentiful at the dam terminus.

Taking away one star because of the current outage near the Polo Park apartments requiring passing through the apartment complex and then riding surface roads to the trailhead by Kohl's.

It can be very crowded near the terminuses and trailheads so please use caution and call out if you are riding.

Murfreesboro's Stones River Greenway System

In-line skating the trails

September, 2020 by rmaron

These trails have a LOT going for them, but strictly for skating I give them only 3 stars.

The asphalt is in good shape in terms of not having very many root cracks, but roughly half of it was paved using course aggregate. There is a lot of vibration of the wheels going over it. Not smooth pavement that is a pleasure to skate on.

The trail is well shaded, and that keeps it cool. But it also delays evaporation of water off the pavement. The day I skated it (in late afternoon) there were many wet/damp spots. These were very slippery.

Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail

Beautiful Trail!

September, 2020 by lisa.jarnigan

This trail is longer than 6.5. From Mark’s Creek Trailhead to Lock A Campground is around 7.5. You can add another 2.5 if you ride to the Cheatham Lock and Dam. You can get about an 18 mile ride in and out. It’s a very beautiful trail!

440 Greenway

late summer walk

September, 2020 by carly.bhave

Very flat, all paved. One dangerous spot is crossing the 440 off-ramp because the cars are flying off that part of the ramp. Great walk leads eight up to the centennial dog park.

beautiful trail along the river

August, 2020 by rogscouse

The trail is a flat trail following the Cumberland river. Great little path up to the Bridge over the river leading to a more strenuous Stones river trail. Connected to this trail is a disused airport which allows you to get some speed training in.

Stones River Greenway

beautiful trail

August, 2020 by rogscouse

Shaded and off road this beautiful trail runs along the Stones river. It’s a bit hilly in places but worth the effort. Connects to the Shelby bottoms trail which is less challenging but worthwhile

Barren River Lake State Resort Park

great trail, with a few concerns

July, 2020 by revchk

First off, this is an awesome trail. It is completely paved and is shaded for roughly about 2/3 of the whole 2.5 mile loop. Incredible scenery, loved the bridges over the creek, and it was full of spectacular nature, plus it was challenging from the rolling and steep inclines and descents within. It was also nice that there was a playground and restrooms with close parking to the trail head. Plus, one might think it’s not long enough, but trust me- it was a workout! However, there are a few concerns one needs to be mindful of. Much of the trail is cracked or buckled from tree roots growing under the pavement which made for a VERY rough ride on some parts. Also mud, debris, and other hazards like fallen tree limbs will likely be encountered, so pay attention. You will want to use a mountain bike or at least a bike with thicker wheels. On the day we were there, I was pulling a toddler trailer with my youngest son in the back. He giggled at first because of the “bumps” but started to not like them eventually. Make sure if you are pulling a trailer that you have descent ground clearance, and no other items except maybe a water bottle because your children will be “bounced” a lot. Plus, you will want hand breaks and the ability to shift gears...some of the hills are very steep and to maintain control you will likely have to “ride the brake” and shift gears frequently. My wife and oldest son ride bikes that are traditional pedal brake bikes which made the trail less fun for them on a few of the slopes and those occasional sharp turns. But they both enjoyed the trail, and just adapted. There was also a section of this trail that was “slanted” or leaning toward a cliff edge. This made me a little nervous as a parent with the trailer and also having my other young child riding his bike there as well because the trail is narrow. But we didn’t have any issues. Also, a significant portion of this trail runs through a golf course. There are “cart crossings”....and greens that are adjacent or connect to the trail....be mindful of this possible hazard if the golf course is busy. At one point a cart was parked next to the bike trial and they were searching for a ball. Minor thing, but with the turns and blind spots, had I been riding fast, there might have been an accident. And of course, having my family with me, made me perhaps a little anxious about the potential reality of someone getting hit by a golf ball. In short, it was a great trail, but it rode more like a mountain bike path than a paved trail. It is family friendly but not family “easy.” So use caution with the above mentioned concerns. Would I take my family there again, sure.....like I said....awesome trail...just be aware of the unique conditions so it is an enjoyable experience for all. FYI....we rode the whole trail twice that day....had a picnic between..... With an additional ride back down to the creek because my oldest son wanted to and my youngest fell asleep in the trailer and napped on the way....even with the bumps...so they can be navigated and not be too cumbersome. In short, pay attention and enjoy this little gem of bike trail at Barren River State park.

headed back soon

July, 2020 by danielfarmer

i started at percy priest dam. very nice paved greenway. there is a bridge out (june 2020) a few miles in, from the dam side. there are a few options for going around it, but nothing all that orthodox. i accessed an apartment complex, then rejoined the greenway at a little ball park. not a huge detour. later, i took wrong turn near the old ravenwood golf course, but if you don't see a sign, just hug the river and that will get you through. otherwise i'd say the signage is good. i'm headed back soon to continue on to shelby bottoms and make a bigger ride out of it.

Great varied trail

June, 2020 by janelleslawson

Love that it’s a loop and has such scenic variety. Great 3 mile distance.

Stones River Greenway

A favorite in Nashville!

June, 2020 by janelleslawson

Easy parking and multiple trail heads - near Kohl’s and the YMCA in Hermitage. A lot of shade and some incline variability.

Beautiful bridge connected to great flat path

June, 2020 by janelleslawson

Easy parking at wave country, follow left down the hill (opposite way extends further), beautiful bridge that leads you to a long path that connects to East Nashville park.
