Heritage Rail Trail County Park

Choose start point carefully

June, 2020 by needanewid

I parked at the York Heritage Rail Trail NE Extension Rt30 Parking Lot to go biking. From there you can walk or bike north and go on a very pretty, well maintained loop for about 5 miles (bathrooms at the park at the end.). If that’s enough for you, it’s a great Trailhead. I rode that north section, then came back and went south from my start point. The first part is a very open section that runs along the creek and has cool views of the city skyline. This then takes you into York city and you must go through some sketchy neighborhoods for a mile or two. After that, you are back in the trail; it runs along the actual rail and it’s wooded and quiet. I saw a deer lazily wandering across the track. If it wasn’t for the couple of miles that made me nervous, I’d give this 5 stars. I will go again but park south of York.

Jack A. Markell Trail

Delaware Hidden Treasure!

June, 2020 by donnahde

My daughter took me for a bike ride and dinner for my birthday. I had no idea where we were going but it ended up being the Jack Markell Trail and I was blown away that I didn't know anything about this wonderful experience before this. It is amazing. So beautifully built and maintained. It went under and around areas I would never have biked thru. My partner and I are avid bird watcher/photographers and I can't wait for him to get his bike fixed so that we can take a leisurely meander thru with our cameras to see all the varieties of birds. The trail even goes thru the Peterson nature center!! Easy biking or walking. Also saw scooters and skateboards. Highly recommend!!

Beautiful easy walk

This was a beautiful easy walk. Shady the whole way. Not too much traffic. Parking was not a problem at 10am.

Carl Henn Millennium Trail

Clockwise v. Counterclockwise.

June, 2020 by klornell

Although I know this part of Montgomery County pretty well (I live about 10 miles away but rarely ride in this direction), this morning I rode the Carl Henn Millenium Trail for the first time. It is much as I expected from having driven around through this area many times. The section west of I-270 is more pleasant and the entire trail is characterized by some gentle long hills that wind along some fairly busy roads as well as some quieter more forested areas & some sections with homes. I started at the Fallsgrove Stream Valley Park and proceeded east, which means that I was riding clockwise. This is the way to go if you wish to avoid going uphill because in this direction its almost all flat or slightly downhill. The path is well marked & generally in very good shape. All told I enjoyed a pleasant hour riding this almost 11 mile trail.

Nice ride

June, 2020 by shanenlewis

Great ride as long as you know the beginning and end points. I’m from Wilmington and had a bit of trouble figuring out where the trail ended at Battery Park! At the beginning the signs are not the easiest to find! However, the trail itself is in great condition and the scenery is very nice. I’ve run into several animals including deer 3x now. Great for nature lovers.

Warwick-to-Ephrata Rail-Trail

Very Nice

Rode entire trail. Very nice, much to see. Loved the paved sections. Some inclines but easy enough. Well maintained. It was busy on a Saturday. Very friendly people on the trail.

Enola Low Grade Trail

Nice Flat trail, not much to see.

June, 2020 by dcsnyder

Road from 2 miles east of trail until the closed section. so 24 miles. The 2 miles to Quarryville is very rough. Then it becomes a nicer gravel, flat and straight. Not much to see as there are tree lines on both sides. Wide trail. Probably better to ride when trees are bare. Like that it's open all year and probably great for cross country ski.

Trolly Line #9 Trail

Pleasant and nicely shaded

June, 2020 by cherylheidel

(Leisurely bike rider here) If you like more of a woodsy atmosphere you will appreciate the tall canopy of tree leaves keeping things cool and shady on this nicely paved trail. I started out by the Trolley Stop restaurant and pedaled East / North about 1 mile towards Catonsville. It’s lightly uphill so a bit of a workout but not bad. Where the trail crossed Oella Ave., I went one block west and found a bodega / country store where I got an ice cream cone and they also had sodas and snacks. The trip back on the trolley line is literally all downhill and it was wonderful!

Cross Island Trail

beautiful!

June, 2020 by lrodriguez_tl

Beautiful June day. Biked this for the first time and it was worth the one hour plus drive there. Plenty of free parking. Loved the old pines and wonderful views. Stopped at Red Eye’s Dock Bar for waterfront outdoor lunch- weekend live music - first time eating at a restaurant since COVID-19 & seating distance made us feel comfortable.
