Pine River Trail

Woodsy rough terrain

September, 2020 by alloy_smile

My first time on this trail. Completed it. Parked at Lone Rock. There is a little circle drive in a residential neighborhood. No bathrooms. It goes thru the woods then and then out in the open along the highway. It's crushed gravel but more like dirt, weeds and rough terrain. There's one part where there were nonstop Grasshoppers! The bridges look like they need to be replaced. There are some spots where metal bars are used as a bridge, it's the strangest thing I've seen used before. I saw a Port a Potty on the way but no bathrooms otherwise :( Once you get to Richland Center there are gas stations and such. Then it turns to asphalt which is nice and goes by the footbridge which you can take bikes across but only one at a time either way. It also smells like manure pretty bad in Richland Center.

Cheese Country Recreation Trail

Tough but doable

September, 2020 by mikenue

Date of ride: 09/20/2020 Bike: hybrid with 42mm tires The Cheese Country trail, as other reviews state, is not a relaxing ride. You have to work for every mile. The gravel is large and there are lots of soft patches. I rode on a weekend so there was quite a bit of ATV traffic. All of the riders were respectful and slowed down to pass, but they kicked up a lot of dust. The 47 miles from Mineral Point to Monroe took 6 hrs. The scenery is nice, but you won’t get to enjoy it much as you’ll be focusing on the trail. If you are looking for a pleasant cerusged limestone trail

Badger State Trail

We enjoyed writing on this trail as a family. The tunnels are closed, because there were rocks falling from the ceiling (We ran into one of the employees who monitors the trails).

Badger State Trail

DISAPPOINTED

September, 2020 by jkrause1125

Rode from Monroe to Monticello, and then to the Stewart Tunnel. Was told the tunnel was closed, but not monitored, so we could still ride thru. Not the case, tunnel entrance was gated and locked - disappointing. The trail itself had some pretty scenery but is not well maintained or mowed.

Jane Addams Trail

just watch out for truck and trailers

September, 2020 by d.deyo2

Was on the trail up by Orangeville, a truck with a car trailer pulled off of 26 onto the trail . Not sure how he made the 2 bridge but wasn’t their when we made it back . Bring the bug spray sometimes Their terrible and sometimes their not ! Otherwise a nice trail to Freeport. Went to the pecatonica trail outside of Freeport over grown with grass. Not sure how far it was like that

The Stewart Tunnel is closed off because it is structurally unsafe. It is also posted on The Friends Of The Suagar and Badger State Trails Website.

Badger State Trail

Go for the tunnel

September, 2020 by marxdm

Met some nice people on my trek here. The tunnel was closed but we were still able to go thru. Not sure why it is closed. Scenic trail with dirt gravel terrain. Goes thru a couple towns and can connect to other trails.

400 State Trail

Just ok

September, 2020 by marxdm

I thought this trail was just ok. One spot where there is bluffs and a river is scenic. Otherwise its pretty straight forward, easy to ride, just not a favorite of mine.

Military Ridge State Trail

Scenic

September, 2020 by marxdm

I did this trail twice to see what I missed. Mount Horeb is where I started the second time. Bustling with people there. Seems uphill headed towards Dodgeville. Winds thru a town. Woodsy but also watch out for sand! Nice part about Mount Horeb is the bathrooms were open and clean!

Sugar River State Trail

Terrible terrain

September, 2020 by marxdm

I rode this entire trail on Sunday. I highly DO NOT recommend this trail unless you have a mountain bike or like beating the crap out of your bike, are looking to crash, or you want a flat tire. Terrain is similar to the Badger State Trail and they do cross, but that trail has the tunnel going for it. Lot of areas of sand you don't foresee, narrowness, holes, sticks, trees, dirt, mud. An all around dirty time. Not much to see. Just woods. I don't see the state maintaining this trail. Many other trails with less people out there that nobody knows about! Sorry Sugar River, you FAIL
