Great ride, trail well maintained and the fall foliage was a perfect setting. The bridge after sunset was beautiful.
Went out and got to the first bridge from Jefferson that crosses the river and it was still down, the detour kind of sucked but other than that the trail was nice.
I rode this trail 8/1/2020 and it is in great condition. A majority of it has newer cement and in the last few years most of the bridges have had cement replace the wood planks, even the wood bridges have newer cement approaches that are smooth. Make sure to ride all the trail in Swan Lake, it is all new along with ride around Black Hawk Lake.
Many places to eat in Carroll but Lakeview is limited. On Sunday Morning no place for breakfast until 9 am, Kathy's Korner is very good food! On Sunday's nothing open between Lakeview and Carroll until 3pm.
On ,8/1/2020 rode from Carroll to Lakeview. This is a fantastic trail with most having newish cement, and most bridges are topped with cement with smooth approaches.
Based on the reviews we read prior to our ride we knew this would be a fun trail but it was even better than we expected! If you need a place to stay, the Art House on State in Madrid was fabulous! Just a few minutes from the trail and 2.6 miles from the bridge!
I walk this trail daily with my dog.
Do not overlook this trail. This trail is concrete, and a fun ride for many reasons. It offers scenery along a lake, a ride thru the woods, with riding over bridges, under bridges, along the Boone River some, and the edge of Webster City for a bit, with open field too. Possible to see deer along the way as well. Trail is mostly flat, with a few hills, but nothing of great concern. The small hills add to the adventure along with the many turns. This trail offers a great ride with benches along the way if needed to take in the moment or rest a spell. This trail is just over 11 miles round trip. A well done trail, and you won't be disappointed.
Short but sweet. Nice bridge over the skunk river. Benches along the way but little shade.
The bridge south of Jefferson is still out. It's unfortunate, because the TH facilities, depot and campground in Jefferson are quite nice and it seems the locals are not getting the bike traffic and traveler money that other communities are.
rode from Rolfe to Rutland. We saw few people except 2 trail maintenance guys who were mowing and removing down limbs. The Des Moines River was bankfull+ so the water was very close to the bridge bottom. Nearly rode over a garter snake and a 3' bull snake who was hugging the edge of the grass line. Just a really nice trail that is maintained. The toilets were closed, though, due to Covid.
