Great walk and ride. Great for bham as it reflects part of the early history of the city. Blast on the mountain bike.
Easy bike trail. Red MT. Park is full of history & the ruins of mining operations.
I live this trail. Recently, a two mile extension opened. I haven't been able to rid it yet but thought everyone would appreciate an update. Here is a link to the news article about the opening and plans for future extensions and connections with other trails in Jefferson County: https://bhamnow.com/2019/06/13/get-your-walking-shoes-ready-five-mile-creek-adds-two-miles-of-trail-in-gardendale-with-plans-to-become-the-longest-trail-in-central-al
Sumiton plus Horse Creek trail 4.2 miles. Nice ride, easy down and back on a beautiful day. Great warm up preparing for a longer trip. Scenery is very nice in March! Drove from Birmingham just to explore.
This was a fun little trail to ride our bikes on. We just wanted a casual ride and that’s what we got! It is paved, flat, and shaded in some areas. There are shaded benches along the path which was nice. There are a few locations where the trail does cross over a back country road, so just be aware when you come to those. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my ride and will be back as soon as I can!
Shared asphalt greenway for bikers, walkers, runners. Follows a beautiful creek. Screened from road traffic but not remote. Used by All ages. Popular morning, day & early evening. Although shared, most bikers know to shout "on your right!" as they overtake walkers. Plenty of parking at east end of trail. Pro: Wide, Shaded, Mowed & caretaken, Easy. : No potties unless Homewood field potties are open, a few car breakins recently so stash your goodies well, dog walkers sometimes don't clean up w/doggie bags.
There are benches and trash cans spread along the path. A nice Creek Trail breaks off the path giving you a chance to walk down to the creek and explore a couple of minor waterfalls (less than a foot high). There is one building that you can rest in from the shade or the rain
The trail is completely asphalt. It now runs from TS Boyd Elementary School all the way to Bevill State Community College. It is an excellent rail Trail--I ride it on a daily basis. Very Very nice!
The trail is really beautiful. There were lots of people walking and cycling. There are also areas where you can sit and even charge your phone. I enjoyed my walk and plan to go further next time to see more of the trail.
This is a cute little trail that runs along 1st Ave N. near Sloss Furnace. It's paved and very stroller/bike/skates/walking friendly. It leads right up to the Rotary Trail and right past that is Railroad Park. I like to start at the Jones Valley trailhead and walk all the way to Railroad Park for a few laps and then back. It's aroun 3 miles of you do that.
