More Hiking Than Biking

September, 2025 by rkraus1

Have been bike packing with son for last 5 years. We have done the C&O, Creeper and GAP trail and some single track in Brevard area. Went to the SFT because of the location and name - The area in SC was gorgeous, we went in spring and just caught the beginning of the pollen season, which made breathing a bit tough. The trail was mostly cut grass and cypress roots. We only managed 4-5mph and with the bikes loaded up with gear... it was very tedious and hard going. So much so that after the first day... we switched over to forest/lumber dirt roads that seemed to run parallel to most of the SFP trail. To me the SFP seemed more conducive to hiking or full suspension MTB trail, due to the surface and vast amount of roots to navigate. Gravel roads however were great and got us to our destination and back.

West Ashley Greenway

Very nice trail

July, 2025 by keulenjn316

Easy parking at west end, biked the 8.5 miles to the east end and enjoyed a yoghurt bowl from TCBY in west Ashley before heading back! There are numerous street crossings that are well marked for safety and intermittent shade along the way s well as resting benches.

Three Rivers Greenway

Great trails, but not connected

July, 2025 by jcax120

I live in the area, and frequently walk all of these trails. They are excellent. They're not all connected currently. Due to construction, some sections are closed. The West Columbia section is closed for the next six months. Part of the Riverfront Park is closed too. Your best bet if you're looking for distance is Candi Lane or the Timmerman Trail located at Dominion Energy. You can get around 11.5 miles round trip from the Timmerman Trail to Blossom Steet and back. Candi Lane is 6.8ish miles round trip. The Timmerman Trail is mostly shaded as is Candi Lane. The Riverfront Park, not so much.

Sawmill Branch Trail

e bikes

June, 2025 by jgn4136

i am concerned with safety on the trail given on monday in one down and back ride i counted 7 e bikes on the trail they are increasing in number. most people dont realize those bikes are powerful fast and very heavy compared to any standard bike. i have now cut my rides from every day to just three days a week and if it doesnt improve even less. its unfortunate i really like the trail its a typically pleasant ride. One of several attractions for me is the fact that the signs all state there are to be no motorized vehicles on the trail yet sense it re opened i have come upon a gas fired scooter two golf carts one atv and countless e bikes. Not really looking good for continued future use for any one not using a motor!

Sumter Cypress Trail

Good little gravel trail

June, 2025 by 71chriskirby

A pretty good little trail for gravel riding, but as others have said, poorly maintain and poorly marked. But if you look into kill time, it’s OK for beginners.

Ashley River Road Bike Path

Great path!

Goes longer than 1.5 miles. You can park at Drayton hall elementary school and walk either way. Lead a to village green, which is a nice neighborhood with trails and hills as well.

Three Rivers Greenway

Pretty, but broken up with construction

April, 2025 by debbie4psu

We’d hoped to ride our bikes the promised 19.8 miles, so we’re disappointed to find that closures and construction reduced our ride to 3.5 miles each direction. We parked as far North as the trail goes, at Capital City Passage Trailhead. It’s pretty and would be cool, but unfortunately wasn’t worth our effort to get our bikes there.

Nice trail - parking info needs work

March, 2025 by gchris256

We biked this trail on March 15. Nice trail, but the parking information needs work. We first tried to find the parking at 25 Lyttleton Ave. There is a house there in a neighborhood, but no trail parking. We found the nearby trail crossing at Nicholson St. There is a single-car pulloff next to the crossing. A passing local person said it was okay to park there. Later on the ride we found the other parking listed for the east end of the trail. It is behind a row of shops and is not marked as trail parking as such. There is an alleyway of sorts behind the shops, with parking along the trail. The turn into the alley is beside the Peter and Sons Shoe Repair Shop at 42 Windermere Blvd, Charleston. Hope this helps other users to find the parking.

Nice trail!

November, 2024 by traillink user

This trail is well maintained and mostly flat. The parking lot on the Swan Lake end was under construction so I had to park near the Swan Lake-Iris Gardens Visitors Center and cross the road to get to the trail. The people inside the center were really nice and told me how to get to the trail head. I like that they have buttons and walk signs at a few of the intersections. Be mindful that the only restrooms are at the trail heads (unless you want to try going off trail into a local business along the way).

Nice Ride - woodsy with swamps and the river

November, 2024 by kevievn

We started at McLeod Mill road. Thanks to charlesdove for providing excellent details in his review. The sand/dirt stretch lasted about a mile, and then it became asphalt. It was pretty flat with beautiful views. The street crossings were at non-busy intersections. Very enjoyable.

Three Rivers Greenway

partly closed on 9/19/24

September, 2024 by kippmich

We parked at Kelley Jones park and the trail is closed. There was a police officer stationed there on a golf cart. We asked him if there was another way to ride this section of the trail. He told us the railroad is doing construction (not communicated to the city per this police officer) and the trail is closed from 7:30am-4pm Mon-Fri for 2 weeks. He told us about another segment a few miles away at the Newman boat ramp. We went there and rode the 4 mile loop. It’s a better walking trail than bike trail but still pretty.
