Tale of Two Trails

August, 2022 by bikin-mike

Tale of 2 trails….maybe 3

All the glowing reviews are for the Parklands of Floyds Fork. Look out when you go downtown!!!

5 stars for Floyds but 2 stars for downtown.

We parked at Turkey Run Park on Seatonville Rd. Turned out to be almost perfect midpoint. Rode 10 miles North to end at Miles Garden. All concrete except for the section North of Taylorsville Rd. Relatively flat except for the tough long climb North of Taylorsville and then at the very end approaching Miles Garden.

In the afternoon we parked at the South end at Broad Run Park. Rode about 10 miles North to Turkey Run. Much different experience. Same great trail surface, but many more hills. I think we had 3 steep climbs. I got off and pushed on a couple. Windy downhills were fun though. Amazing that this beautiful park is not tax supported. A real gem indeed!

Downtown is a different story. Parked at Big Four and headed West. Pretty nice for first couple miles. Started seeing some homeless tents under I-64 past the Science Center parking around 9th Street. Had some folks riding go carts and scooters on the trail and wouldn’t move over for bicycles. The real “fun” started after the railroad underpass where trail turns right. Down a sidewalk with some flood level markers in the pavement, then a couple sharp turns into a wooded park. Pavement ends. All dirt and mud. Abandoned cars. We finally turned around when we got to a bridge with mud halfway up to the railings. (see pic) Do yourself a favor. Turnaround when you see the sign at Portland Wharf Park that says Loop Alt Route. (see pic) Was about 4.2 miles from Big Four to Portland Wharf.

Enjoyed the wide diversity of the 3 rides. Definitely a big change from a typical flat and straight Rail-Trail…..bikin-Mike….Aug 2022

Barren River Lake State Resort Park

lots of shade and bumps

August, 2022 by erkentucky

This short trail is all paved, but has lots of root bumps! Has a long down hill stretch, but it is full of bumps, so you can’t really enjoy it . It’s also easy to confuse the golf cart paths with the trail at times.

Legacy Trail (KY)

Cadiz Railroad Trail

route very bumpy

Ok route. I would recommended parking in the school lot. Otherwise you cross a busy road. Need a trail, hybrid or mountain for the trail by the railroad

Adkisson Greenbelt

beautiful ride

May, 2022 by leslie.m.mclaughlin

We enjoyed our ride today. Read everyone’s reviews and found them to be 100% accurate. We started off from o Ford nature park and rode the entire trail. It was cool and overcast with very few people on the trail

Muhlenberg County Rail-Trail

May 2022

May, 2022 by cindasanders

Nice ride good even pavement w gradual inclines mostly flat. Saw two wild turkeys or saw one wild turkey twice. Not many people on trail. No soap or tissue at Central City trailhead restroom. A little confused finding trailhead on Greenville side

Dawkins Line Rail Trail

Dogs, dogs, dogs

May, 2022 by jtd335

My wife and I planned to cycle approximately 30mi on the Dawkins Line. We started at the Jane Beshears Trailhead and headed toward the Tip Top Tunnel. The trail surface was poor with a mixture of crush run and loose gravel. In the first two miles we were chased by ten different dogs. Between the surface and the dogs we decided to return to the vehicle and were chased by the same ten dogs again. The trail manager needs to address these issues before I'd recommend this trail to anyone.

Paducah Greenway

A Flat, Smooth Ride with Great Vistas of the Ohio River

March, 2022 by mosesmapmaker

The trail is a nice five-mile ride. I went on the second day of spring, but it must look even better when there is more foliage along the path. Unless it's unusually busy, I recommend parking by the riverfront mural wall downtown just off Broadway. The mural in the tunnel is a nice touch. As an extra excursion, you can take an extra loop in Noble Park or the County Park, where there is a mountain bike course. Noble Park gets busy on balmy weekends and holidays, so look out for traffic. There is talk of extending the trail southward from the west endpoint of the trail, so don't think that you've necessarily done the whole trail if you happen to return in a few years. If you happen to stop in Noble Park, be sure to bring discs if you want to play some frisbee golf on the 18-hole course. Also, a walk on the brick-surfaced sidewalks on Broadway downtown offers some breathtaking historical scenery.

Dawkins Line Rail Trail

Enjoyable Ride

March, 2022 by rigajohn

We left the Jane Beshear tailhead. Tried to use the restroom facilities before we left, however the doors were locked. Hope they can remedy that. Going north, the trail was crushed rock for about 2 miles. The path was smooth and easy to ride for the first 0.5 miles. From that point forward, there was a lot of evidence of ATV use on the trail. The tread marks left grooves which made the ride more bumpy. We also ran into a patch where the gravel was very loose and it actually made it hard to drive through. About 2 miles in, we hit asphalt and the rest of the ride was very smooth. We also a couple of close calls with dogs chasing us and we drove up the trail. It got scary once as a pit bull approached. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience and I would go again.
