Enjoyed this trail tonight. It is now fully paved and incorporated into the Fall Line Trail (see current review for that). It was a pleasure to bike!

Fall Line Trail

Gem of a trail (Part 2)

April, 2026 by megr_tl

falllinetrail.org shows the future plans for expansion, some under or to be under construction soon, and eventually to go through Richmond. When we reached the current end of the trail, there were options to take a left or right and follow existing side paths. We got an extra mile each way (and could have done more) for a 12-mile ride. The short Trolley Trail has been incorporated into this trail, and while riding, it wasn’t obvious exactly which part it was. A quality job has been done with this trail so far: marked road crossings, mileage signs for each .5 miles, stop signs at intersections, and more.

Fall Line Trail

Enjoyed this continuing to develop gem tonight!

April, 2026 by megr_tl

Saw this trail on TrailLink and further investigated it at falllinetrail.org and stopped to ride it as we traveled along I-95. We parked by the Northern End of the paved trail in the parking lot for Carter Park and rode it to its current end. It is listed here at 4.8 miles, but both of our bike computers, which match a measured mile, read 5 miles one way. While there are a number of stops for crossroads, we were able to maintain a nice speed on it. There were many bikers and walkers, so I imagine it could get quite busy on the weekends. It is relatively flat, but there are some gentle hills as it goes through wetlands, forests, and fields. The website I mentioned shows planned development, some of it ready for gconstruction. Soon

Virginia Capital Trail

We just did the 11 miles from Four Mile Park to Richmond. Fully paved. Super smooth. The trailhead at Four Mile Park is gorgeous! It's as big as an interstate rest area. The trail has some longish hills

Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

very nice, worth doing again

October, 2025 by k6rpwp4cxc

Nice paved ride that takes you into Driver. Couldn't believe we saw Jim equipment 3 miles in that had kettle bells, a bike and an elliptical plus other stuff. 4.5 miles there is a bike station for air, tools to fix your bike.

Ashland Trolley Line

The Ashland Trolly Line is open again and extended as part of the Fall Line trail. It runs about 3.5 miles to the Henrico Co Line. It ends there, but will soon be extended another mile after the Chicahominy River bridge is inspected and opened.

South Hampton Roads Trail

saw this by accident

This will be. I’ve when it is completed. The Portsmouth section is 2 miles but the ROW extended to the next part.

Powhatan Creek Trail

Take time for Church on the Main

August, 2025 by tbaileyva

This paved trail is a very nice side trail off the Capital Trail. One of the history markers near Mile 1 of the Capital Trail mentions the Church on the Main. You can see this moving site via this trail, about 1/2 way in. The trail end near the school trends uphill, but not too bad and it's heavily wooded. This is great for a few extra miles.

Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

Driver to Pughsville and back

August, 2025 by gardener1298

A nice 7.2 mile round-trip, paved, shady trail with very friendly people. Could probably use more parking, but we rode our bikes during the week and there were plenty of spaces available. The tree roots are tearing up the asphalt a bit (making for a bumpy ride). The trail was very clean with no garbage; it's obvious there are people who take care of it.

Nice trail for a hot day!

Most of this trail is shaded which made for a pleasant ride.

Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

Nice trail / Needs more parking

May, 2025 by gardener1298

Did the northeast section, Suburban to Nansemond. Have walked it before, but this was the first time biking. A nice, easy, flat, paved trail with plenty of shade. The only problem is the parking. Only a few slots and all but one very skinny one was available.

Elizabeth River Trail (Atlantic City Spur)

Treacherous section

April, 2025 by cdwhittaker

On March 12, 2025, my wife and I cycled on the ERT. On red gate Avenue under the tall evergreens, her tire was caught in a deep tree route and threw her to the left side. A half hour later she was at the Centra emergency room where she was diagnosed with three broken ribs, hematoma, and her left side a gash to the right knee and multiple bruises. We hope that the officials and trail advocates in Norfolk will take notice ; please post a warning, paint, the dangerous ridges and make plans to repair the section of the trail. A large bush blocked our view until we were right on these obstacles as we headed toward the hay. This was a very traumatic experience. To
