High Bridge Trail State Park

Rode the trail from Tuggle to the bridge and back. 20 miles total. It was 40F but not much wind. The trail is in GREAT condition. No rough spots at all. Although we didn't stop because of time constraints, the town of Farmville, VA looks inviting.

Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail

Beautiful scenery, rough ride

September, 2021 by hswalker39

I started out planning to ride the entire trail, beginning at the trailhead on Bloombury Rd. I made it to Mile Marker 4, which is another trailhead, and decided I’d had enough for one day. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, but some have mentioned the rocks. At this end of the trail, there is only gravel. My problem, for which there’s no real solution, was the roots that crisscross the trail. They’re not the huge roots that can take you down, but they’re unavoidable, and there are a lot of them, and they make for pretty rough riding. I agree with those who recommend fat tires/mountain bikes.

Some parts are fine, parts very bumpy, and some sections have very thick, large stones that are difficult to maneuver through.

Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail

Very Nice Quiet Trail

September, 2021 by xenonra57

Our first time on this trail. For cyclist I would recommend a mountain bike, skinny tires would not be fun. Quiet except for the gunshots in the distance the first 1 to 2 miles but hey you are out in the country. Nice tree covered trail reminds me of the Poolesville Md stretch of the C&O Canal Trail. relatively flat. We did not complete the full trail but will most definitely be back. The very few people we ran into on the trail were very friendly.

Virginia Capital Trail

Started out from Richmond. Made it to Charles city. 37.5 this was for Memorial day weekend. Of 2021. Heading back for Labor day weekend. For round 2 .. going the distance. 52

High Bridge Trail State Park

Well Maintained

August, 2021 by danaprn

We took our e-bikes last week (Aug ‘21) and it wasn’t crowded at all. Rode from Farmville over the bridge and to one end. It ends quite abruptly. I would have given 5 stars if the amenities on the trail spurs would have been identified on signs. We will definitely return to bike the other half and back (30 miles). Great free parking, too!

Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail

inconsistent surface

June, 2021 by shcavan

Bumpy, some areas with large stones, not a pleasurable trail.

Virginia Capital Trail

Outstanding trail. My wife dropped me off in Richmond and meant me in Jamestown. Rode it on June 12th 2021. It wasn't crowded at all and the only thing I would say is the trail isn't wide enough.

High Bridge Adventure

June, 2021 by sandymo

We took our tandem 29er out and back both ways from Farmville. As others have said, the main attraction is the High Bridge, and its great. The trail is very well maintained and has plenty of bathrooms along the way...but as others have said, not a lot of places to get water. Make sure you have plenty, especially on these 90° days. Much of the trail is shaded so that’s a plus. Except for the bridge, it’s probably not a destination trail yet as there’s not much in the way of places to stop along the trail. Still, it’s a great place to get some miles. Some have mentioned the crowds but we saw none of that on a Sunday.

Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail

Exceptional

May, 2021 by olsen.sw

I only did 4 miles in of this trail recently, but it was extremely nice. Terrain varies between gravel, pine tags and a few dried mud bogs, but it was most enjoyable and pleasant. Future plans call for hiking the entire length and also a r/t mountain biking excursion.

Virginia Central Railway Trail

A nice Trail

May, 2021 by olsen.sw

Great for daily walks in around the city. One downside...you have to cross RT 1 to finish up the last .75 miles of the trail. A bit of a pain, but overall, it's a nice round trip walk.

Virginia Capital Trail

Nice trail, but facilities are limited

April, 2021 by dcsnyder

Nicely paved trail, mostly flat from Jamestown to Charles City except the bridge over a river. Rolling hills as you go towards Richmond. We did a two day ride from Jamestown to Richmond, then the next day back. Richmond along the river is beautiful. We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard Downtown, just a few blocks from the start of the trail.
The only reason for four stars as facilities, like rest rooms and shelter are very minimal. Some trailheads that have rest rooms, could be a mile off the trail.
